I too am retired young and am now a hobby farmer..but we have a bunch more types of animals...it’s the best! We are in NW PA and it can be -19 for days in a row here..or nice, sunny 25’. We’ve roofed our chickens...they don’t go in the barn.do you electric to your barn..do you know how you’re going to keep their water from freezing...do you need to rent a ditch digger to drop the elec line, make sure you have outdoor spotlights on barn that you can turn on from house, are you plowing out to barn...ours is about 100yards away so we’re plowing ...do you have water in your barn? We are putting a 330 gal water tank in our feed room with the heated electape around it so it won’t freeze. Also. In the water bowls..put a water bottle for of salt with lid on inside your water feeder...the salt stops water from freezing so fast. Like we have rabbits..for small animals you can use a ping pong ball. These are my tips for tonight...I’ll think of more as we do
We have water and electricity in our barn. Good to know about the down side of using heat lamps! Love the idea about putting a water bottle filled with salt water in my water buckets to help with freezing temps!!! Thanks!!!
