Hi, besides dogs, a cat and a rabbit, we have 2 mature chickens (a polish - new to our family, a buff Brahma Bantam), 3, probably 5 or 6 week old chickens (a Well Summer hen, a black lacewing hen, and an Easter egger hen), and 6 ducks (4 cayugas, 2 Welch Harlequins) that are about 3 weeks old.
We are about to build a duck house and yard. We have a coop and yard for the chickens. Right now we’re putting the ducks outside when it’s around 70 or so degrees - to hang our and run around. They‘ve taken two swims in the bathtub (for about 5 min or so each time). The young chickens are hanging out in a small henhouse we’d bought but never used. We’re hoping when we introduce them to the lady chickens, they’ll all get along without abuse.
The lady chickens want nothing to do with the ducks.
We have never had ducks. We can’t believe how quickly they’ve grown. We are having trouble figuring out their watering situation... without them soaking their giant Rubbermaid living situation. I found a better solution - a Parmesan cheese tub (with a hole in it) in a large terra-cotta tray; but they drink all of it in an hour. But their little house isn’t big enough for something much bigger. We’re considering moving them to a baby pool in the garage. Right now they’re in the bedroom at night and days like today that are too cold to be outside.
We feel like the chickens grew quickly but have now slowed down.
Ducks are growing SO FAST!
I’ll attach a few photos.
