I have two, 3 week old Easter Egger/Barred Rock cross chicks (7 wks old as of 3/30/10) that I hatched together (my first chick babies!) and am wondering if you can tell the gender of each of them. They both have the same mommy & daddy. Below are photos of the parents and then the girlz. Petunia is the daddy and obviously I thought he was a girl until he was 3 months old (I still call him Petunia, it doesn't seem to bother him.

). Let me know what you think! Thanks for weighing in!
(Sad update: We had to cull Soupy. Long story, subject of a different thread.)

This is the daddy, Petunia, at 7 weeks old.

I've got a bad feeling by the looks of that comb (although not remarkable wattles yet?) that Rosie is more of a Rosie Greer than a Rosie O'Donnell.

Is that based on the tail feathering differences? I was really, really HOPING they're both girls and thought they might be due to the dark striping on the front of the feet, which I thought I read was a sign of a female in Barred Rocks. ?

I'm with PK, and think that Rosie is a cockerel. there's a 50% chance of me being wrong, though.

I think you might have to wait a bit more to start figuring it out.

I'd say soupy is a cockeral, only because I hear roos feather out much slower than hens. But then rosie has a bit of a comb, who knows? How do they act?

I'd say Rosie is more fiesty than Soupy, but then again, I'm more fiesty than my husband, so that doesn't mean anything!

What should I look for in a few more weeks that would lead me to an opinion one way or the other?
