New puppy owner chat thread

I just assumed working line because I've never seen anyone hunt with show line retrievers lol
most everyone else that I know that hunts with them has working line

I'm sure they're great at it! Any pictures of your past ones while hunting?
I'll scrounge up a few of Comet and Pearl from last year, and years before that. Give me a moment here...

Ya, Border Collies really are the lead of the agility world. Its nice to see the sport expanding to other breeds.
I enjoy watching ABC (anything but collies) agility- it seems like you might like it.
Thats really cool! I love to see people training their dogs for specific purposes, and accomplishing their goals. 70% of people don't train their dogs, and yank then around on a pinch collar their whole lives because the dog won't listen.
it bothers me so much!! An example of this is my dog friend ND- her owners started too late with training for her, and she was a disaster for a while. Now they took her to a trainer, which is great! Aside from the fact that the trainer put a 6 month old puppy on a prong collar. Now she's constantly being jerked around on it. When I walk her (sometimes they're busy and can't) I walk her on her harness, and she walks completely fine.
Then lock them in a crate when they can't be with them.
Crate training isn't bad- dogs are den animals, and many see crates as a safe space (kinda like your bedroom) and enjoy being in them. They have the added benefits of aiding in housebreaking and training. I wouldn't consider it bad for adult dogs to like crates. Finn loves his- I've seen him run in and shut the door by pulling it closed with his mouth lol

NO! That is so irritating! Why a prong collar? I wouldn't' even consider that unless the dog wasn't learning a thing on a light duty normal check chain. That totally sucks. Poor baby.
When we camp on the beach, I see people that are putting all their wait on their dogs collars while the doge pulls ahead of them, or is being lifted onto its back legs barking at dogs ahead. It makes me so sad. :(

Deacon wears a prong all the time.

It doesn't hurt. Its a communication device. If he pulls ahead, he gets pressure, It corrects him before I can even get the word "heel" out of my mouth. It is also great for commands. If I ask for a sit, and he doesn't, I give pressure on the prong. If I ask for something it gets done. He will never get away with not doing a command

I totally agree. We've crate trained all of our dogs, as its an important roll in potty training for puppies. It helps them let you know when they need to go potty. :)
But, the create isn't a place to, "keep" your dog or trap them during the day while your not home is my point. A lot of people also don't understand how big the crate needs to be, (big enough to turn around in and lay down) and trap their dogs in crates that are to small. A family member of mine does this.
Lol! That is to CUTE! Ember is starting to warm up to her crate as well. She's slept in there a few times, and is starting to realize its her safe zone. 🥰

She used to be on a choke chain but it had no effect because they hooked it up to a retractable leash, so it was constantly tightened :)
I know!!! She walks BEAUTIFULLY on a harness!!!!! I don't know why they won't just use that!

Especially because teaching a dog not to pull is so easy, but nobody knows how. It bothers me sO much
