Your absolutely right. The crate is the safe zone that the pup uses while it can't be free. the problem is, that people think of it as a place to "keep" or "hold" the dog whenever needed, and put the dog in that crate for long periods of time, even after they can be trusted in the house.Eventually that's true, but there's not much else you can do with a puppy while you're not home, until they're fully house broken and trained.
If you think if it like me and you do, a tool in potty training, and the puppy's safe place, then you know when the crate is, and is no longer necessary. Thats the difference that a lot of people dont know.
