(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had chickens years ago when I ran a dairy farm many years ago. I have recently decided I missed my feathered friends and life has slowed down a bit so I started over with chicks about 10 weeks ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
8 right now, all pullets, I would have more but will need to wait until we get our forever land in the country to expand, still living in suburbia.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Barred Rock. It is the breed I had on the farm and I just love how docile and quiet they are. I may venture into some others when I have more space.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Its like having children again, only not as demanding. They are hilarious to watch and calming. I love all their personalities..
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, cooking, genealogy, landscaping, resin art, and gaming (yea, Im a bit of a geek)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have grown children and 4 grandchildren that live far away. My husband and I are both in technology and planning for retirement in the next 10 or so years and looking for our forever land to build our hobby farmette.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
