New to here from Upstate South Carolina

Hey there Hiedi,

It's the first time for me in over 20 years. lol Forgot I start sneezing when I am around them. lol.

Funny how I forgot that. And I have 25 of them. But as soon as they can go out there are going out. Hey ... IF anyone needs some roasters let me know. I really have more than I need.

Welcome sweetie to the greatest little chicken coop I have found on the web.

I love to see this list growing. There are more and more of us in SC and NC that respond here. Pretty soon we will be able to start our own club!
We are up to 91 chickens and still growing. What is wrong with us??

At this point in time we have too many roos and I think some are still hiding out knowing what will happen come fall, if I don't sell them.
I have 2 extra Jersey Giants, an extra EE, and a few Cochins in standard and bantam. I am suspecting one of the Barred Rocks to be a roo but he is hiding it pretty well and now one of the Salmon Faverolles is getting extremely black.

We are building tractors as fast as we can! But I really don't want so many different breeding pens. I like the eggs better to eat, not hatch. And I prefer not to have to put so many roos in the freezer.
The most roos I will have will be the sweet Silkies. They are a riot!

Hey. I'm new here too. Little further south than you...in Lexington. Our little babies are about 10 weeks old now. We've got about 30 chickens, 9 Narragansett turkeys, and 4 geese.

Hello!
We just got a new Guinea pig for my DD to show and we came down into Lexington county to get it.
We were already at my sister's on Lake Murray so it was a quick jump over past Ballentine to pick up the piggie.
DD named it Lexi, too, for the county. Hey, when you have over 40 piggies, you start running out of name choices.

Welcome Kim... Our babies just turn a month old and are out growing their pen. Hubby is still working on the coop. Told he if he didn't get it done they were going to take over the back porch. lol.

It is great having people in our area to talk with and just be chicken with. lol.

Something funny. Our middle son wanted to name all the chickens. So I told him that he could name them lunch, supper, dinner and maybe a few breakfastes in there. He said, "mommy that not good names for them.' I said , yes it is. We do plan on eating some. lmao. He said, "Well don't tell them that. They may get mad.:thun lmao. He is only 6yrs. old.

I can relate totally to the whole coop-not-done thing. Our babies were about 1 or 1 1/2 months before we finished our "chicken mansion". It started out to be a small but hubby got carried away...Now the new thing is to get a couple of pigs. They are supposed to be ready in two weeks and we've not even started on the pen yet. Typical for us, I guess...

My kids have named some of the birds too. It will be interesting to see how my girls handle the whole butchering process. We did have to put a turkey out of her misery due to an injured leg and they did ok with that. But, we didn't eat her...I guess we'll see.

That will be something to see. I remember mom used to say that the chicken had got out and ran off. lol. Course she used that line too when one of our pets would die or get ran over. She never wanted me to cry over them. Now I know that all the chicken we had when I was a kid was those run away chickens. lol.

Being crazy about chickens is something I must be good at. I am up to 93 and have more eggs under my broody hen. Since I no longer work I just take care of the farm and chickens at least feed us!
I have found them to be some cool pets! I spend my evenings sitting in the lounge chair down by the barn letting them hop all over me and tell me how their day went. Never could do that with the horses. I was always having to repair something they tore up!
These chickens are addictive!
