They were lounging. They were active and fine after that and now in their coop for the first time! No wild noises and I put food and water in there. Do they need the food and water, or that will just create a mess?
I only keep a bucket with horizontal nipples on it for water in the coop. I feed and keep a fount waterer in the run. But my run is as predator proof as the coop and the pop door remains open between the areas always.
They don't need food or water during the night. They are not active in the dark.
They can and do drink first thing in the morning when they come off the roost so water should be available. The design of your coop will dictate the best waterer for your situation but whatever you use, it should be spill proof and not allow water to evaporate into the coop and increase moisture.
I wouldn't worry about them puffing up when they lounge around. If they become puffed up with their necks pulled in and standing around looking lethargic, THEN be concerned. That is the first sign of coccidiosis.

Hey everyone! The girls are 5 weeks old today. Well I hope they’re girls. Lol. They’ve been living in the coop 4 nights now and no problems. A friend came by with her dog and they freaked flying into the wire and cutting their combs. They’re healing 24 hours later but have little scabs. I held the chihuahua in one arm and chicken in the other and they mellowed down, they’d just never seen a dog and went into flight mode. Mealworms bribed them into getting along. Lol.
Is it too early to tell sex? They’re really feathered and huge. Ones legs are much thicker. Still all round tipped feathers.
