Ewok,
You've got a remarkable outlook, find humer in tough situations, and clearly resilient enough that I'm sure you'll battle back to whatever your new normal will be.
Wow on the sleep stuff. I had to have my thyroid removed and until we found the right cocktail of synthetic hormones, I swung between sleeping 20 hrs a day, or being wide awake for 3 days straight. I completely lost track of what time it was, what day of the week. I used to call it time travel. Fortunately, that improved for me. Whether or not it can improve for you, based on your outlook - you'll find a way to inspire others with your optimism.
Thanks on the pooch. He lost his big brother a few weeks ago, and now wants to spend all day with the chickens. Hope your Shepherd can get there. They're smart dogs, so hopefully you'll get him trained up to be chick safe.
looking forward to following your journey!
This got me to thinking, I use to help with thyroid surgeries and parathyroid surgeries back when I could work doing neuromonitoring during the case. It is amazing at how such a small organ can make such a huge difference in a person's life. I remember once it was removed within 15 minutes you would see a drastic change in the chemical make up in the blood. This was how they would tell if enough of the thyroid has been removed. If the numbers did not drop enough then more had to be removed. The sad part is it is not so quick and easy to make up the difference with the cocktail of synthetics. It can take months or years to get it right and they tend to not let this information be known until after they have done the surgery which always made me angry. Not that it would have made a difference on if it needed to be done but the fact that the patients was not fully informed. Its like SURPRISE!
I am sorry to hear that Titan lost a brother. It is hard to lose a pet and even the other pets go through morning and it's so sad to see such. A few years back we lost our Rhodesian Ridgeback Rocco due to cancer. Little Daisy my 3 legged rescue was close with Rocco. When he died that poor dog was down for weeks. It was not until we got Moose our shepherd that she started to perk up a little bit. It took her a few months to get back to normal but she did eventually. I gave Daisy Rocco's collar and she still sleeps with it and carries it around the house.
