New to the crew.

Ewok,

You've got a remarkable outlook, find humer in tough situations, and clearly resilient enough that I'm sure you'll battle back to whatever your new normal will be.
Wow on the sleep stuff. I had to have my thyroid removed and until we found the right cocktail of synthetic hormones, I swung between sleeping 20 hrs a day, or being wide awake for 3 days straight. I completely lost track of what time it was, what day of the week. I used to call it time travel. Fortunately, that improved for me. Whether or not it can improve for you, based on your outlook - you'll find a way to inspire others with your optimism.

Thanks on the pooch. He lost his big brother a few weeks ago, and now wants to spend all day with the chickens. Hope your Shepherd can get there. They're smart dogs, so hopefully you'll get him trained up to be chick safe.

looking forward to following your journey!

This got me to thinking, I use to help with thyroid surgeries and parathyroid surgeries back when I could work doing neuromonitoring during the case. It is amazing at how such a small organ can make such a huge difference in a person's life. I remember once it was removed within 15 minutes you would see a drastic change in the chemical make up in the blood. This was how they would tell if enough of the thyroid has been removed. If the numbers did not drop enough then more had to be removed. The sad part is it is not so quick and easy to make up the difference with the cocktail of synthetics. It can take months or years to get it right and they tend to not let this information be known until after they have done the surgery which always made me angry. Not that it would have made a difference on if it needed to be done but the fact that the patients was not fully informed. Its like SURPRISE!

I am sorry to hear that Titan lost a brother. It is hard to lose a pet and even the other pets go through morning and it's so sad to see such. A few years back we lost our Rhodesian Ridgeback Rocco due to cancer. Little Daisy my 3 legged rescue was close with Rocco. When he died that poor dog was down for weeks. It was not until we got Moose our shepherd that she started to perk up a little bit. It took her a few months to get back to normal but she did eventually. I gave Daisy Rocco's collar and she still sleeps with it and carries it around the house.

You know your stuff for sure. It took almost 3 years to get stable on the right hormones, and I still need to have it tweaked a few times a year. I was aware of the possible time it would take to get it right, but I really wasn't aware of the lost time / sleep and non sleep periods. I''m blessed to have that all behind me now. Wishing the best for you as you begin to find your new normal.

Ha, Ha, I just know enough to be dangerous. Lucky for me the stroke only took my short term memory. So, everything before the stroke I remember. Everything after the stroke not so much lol. It takes months of repetition to go from short term to long term for me to remember things. Typically about 5 minutes is all I can remember. If I keep reading it over and over for about a month then it seems to stick. Needless to say I can buy stock in sticky notes and notebooks. Lucky for me I know how to make ink pens so I don't have to buy those lmaooo.

I am glad to hear that is behind you now. I think I have found my new normal once I accepted the fact that no matter what I can not change it. I do still have my "Down times" because I can remember what I use to could do and accomplish but I have had to become adamant on telling myself not to "cry over spilt milk" as they say. Then to realise according to all the test, pictures and medical science and such I should be dead. Part of the stroke hit my midbrain which controls the heart and lungs. My heart should have stopped immediately and I should have stopped breathing. Thank god somewhere I was wired a little different. I guess that answered if my wires are crossed because they are. lol

Welcome to BYC! Great introduction! Looking forward to hearing all about your flock as they grow! Feel free to share some pics if you want! We all love fuzzy baby pics :love

DIYMama, Here is my first photo of my Little Peckers. My apologies for my crappy cell phone camera.

I do know the overuse of photos has been gumming up the works. Some clips of photos do 3-4 repeats ,times being put up on several threads. I have seen so many of the same photos so often, I wish I could just turn them off!

I almost never post any photos. I don't know how to do it myself, and rarely get son to help me (lives many states away).

It would be nice if photos would be posted once(and duplicates photos deleted) and on other postings just offer a link to them.
