First time hatching, first time as chicken owner. I adopted a chick a couple of weeks ago. Set 7 to hatch. 2 chicks hatched yesterday, 1 hatched this morning.
The adopted check has been in the brooder since I got him. I added the 2 new chicks last night, then added a screen between them & the older one - for few days I'm thinking, until they can hold their own. The chick that was born this morning, I put in with the 2 babies and both of them went right for the new baby! I've read about pecking order, but OMG! It was like a frenzy! I put the new baby back in the 'bator for now. Please, any comments from you experienced chicken people is greatly appreciated! I'm just imagining walking away and a slaughter happening!

Sometimes the others will accept a new chick, sometimes not. It's usually best to put them together within the same 24 hours, but it can vary. For instance, there are week-old-chicks in our kitchen. The first and second ones were hatched on the same day. The 3rd was hatched the next day, and the 4th the day after. All four got along perfectly, albeit a few curious pecks when they first got in there.
Hope someone can help you!
