Nice new neighbors.... *****UPDATE******* Page 4

Some people just don't learn (or care), after five warnings and one from the Sheriff of my intent to shoot (the Sheriff told me to shoot the dogs), I caught one of their dogs with a mouthful of feathers at my coop. Their other three dogs still roam the neighborhood, even when one of their dogs got lead poisoning.

I don't think you will have a court issue for an injured dog, at least not one that the dog owner could win. Most places have leash laws, since the dog was on your property when it got shot, it was obviously not on a leash.

Go over there and tell them that their dogs are creeping around your place at night.
You have contacted the Sheriff's department and they have advised you to shoot the dogs.
If the dogs are not kept off of your property you will shoot them because they are not restrained and are now considered a threat to your animals.
Tell them that you keep your dogs to your own yard and that you would like it if they did the same.

good advice.

I would do as ranchhand said, certified mail a copy of a law to the owners and the Sheriff's office. I would photograph the dogs in my yard. The next visit I made to the neighbors would be to dump a dead dog on their porch.

Yeah but if she does have to SSS, watch the neighbors get mad at HER over it.

I had neighbors like that. They threatened physical bodily harm to me and my young children because I had to kill their Labrador after repeat warnings which included practically begging them to keep him up in their well fenced in yard. Even when the guy saw the dog dead, with my chicken still in his mouth, he said he was going to burn my home down and blah blah blah.

Anyway, I don't want to hi-jack your thread, Cindiloohoo. Just make sure you keep yourself safe if you DO have to shoot the dogs. And I'm sorry that you are in that position. I know how much you don't want to, believe me. Take care and keep us up to date on this situation. I sincerely hope it gets better for you before you have to "do the deed" or lose a chicken!

Thanks for understanding! I appreciate it!

I went and spoke with the neighbors. Those dogs aren't theirs they were just at their house yesterday. It seems someone else had been hunting behind our house or training their dogs because we got a flier in the mail for a lost dog after I had talked to them. The man had been to their house yesterday to pick up the female. The male is still missing. I haven't seen him anymore. They were hanging out over there all day yesterday.....I hope he gets the other soon and keeps them contained!! The neighbors were nice and I did mention their two dogs, we'll see what happens...hopefully they stay home. I don't worry about them as much, but those two huge Bull Mastiffs really had me worried.

You didn't mention... did the two mastiffs break free or are they LET free? I have a boxer who could get out of a locked box in another locked tank of water... so she breaks free often (not so much lately). I'm just wondering. Been lurking.

Apparently they were just lost. There is a 75 acre hunt club behind our house just across a gully. Dogs almost never make it this far because the hunters know the positioning of the houses. These two apparently got way out of range while either hunting or being trained.

Yep. Lost. I scanned over the whole thing. lol...

Oh well, right? Either their dog will come back or it won't. Someone might take it if they find it. Any purebred "free ranging" is game to getting stolen.

I'm curious to see if your dropped hint to the new neighbors breaks through. Time will tell.
