Many guinea hens don't sit on there eggs, and when they do sit they often don't hatch them. Guinea owners often put their guinea eggs under a broody chicken, or incubate them. Do you have an incubator?

When the eggs pile up like they have for peanut's Hens... unless the nest and Hen or Hens are disturbed too much the chances of a Hen or Hens going broody on the pile are very high. My free range Hens (1 or 2 different Hens each season) used this spot in the corner of an old Goat shed 4 hatching seasons in a row until I started using the shed for Momma Goats and their newborn kids.

I also have a Royal Purple Hen broody on 6 eggs out in the tall grass in one of my pastures right now... she only laid about 12 eggs before she went broody (I collected her fresh eggs each day and I have them in the incubator). I gave her some incubator duds (clears) to keep her laying more eggs there but she went broody really soon after that. I'll give her her own eggs back in the next day or 2 when I am sure she is determinedly broody).

peeps, thanks for the pic I do not touch the eggs and only look when they all out in the feild I hope they will start setting while I am gone because they will be shut up in their out side pen and put in the coop at night you have been so helpful thanks again

But with every ones help I learnign more every day. I do hope some hatch but if not I guess I will have a lot more chances probably more then I want. HAVE A GREAT DAY

I guess our girls are just not very determind, then, 'cause we've never had one last more than a week on the eggs. Even then, she couldn't decide which ones she wanted to cover and changed it up so often none of them were being kept warm. Sooo frustrating! But, maybe this year I'll give some of the other girls a try. We'll see. I do love those pics of a guin hen sitting on her massive pile of eggs!

Peanut, do you like to eat them? We are usually hatching so don't get to eat them often but I think they taste great, especially when I don't let my son crack them so there aren't any shells. ;)

I HAVW NOT EVER ATE THEM BUT EVERY ONE SAID THEY ARE GOOD, BUT DID NOT MARK THEM SO DON'T KN OW WHAT ONES ARE OLD OR NEW SO NEXT TIME I WILL MARK THEM LIKE ONE OF THE GIRLS SAID SO LEARN MORE EVERY DAY TSTART SSETTING WILL LET YOU KNOW PEANUTHANKS COUNTRY CHICKENS HOPE WHILE IAM GONE THEY

Mr. Weatherman says that we are going to have 32 degrees tonight. We have 6 boxes filled with guinea and chicken eggs and another nest with a half dozen guinea eggs. I guess we will have to start over after this cold snap is over.

No I don't have an incubator. since this is my first year i really did not want to do that if they hatch a few I will be happy bugt I really don't need a hundred guniea eggs so we will see what happens and be happy with that
