No energy and bright green poop!

Ok everyone that gets this green poo problem, i had a hen sitting on eggs and the first poo wasn't green but really stunk! Then 2 days later it was that bright green and she was very sick. I gave her a cc of karo syrup for 3 days and each day i seen her getting better. By the 3rd day i put her back in the coop. Also i gave her a night crawler and some grass with dandiline. Of course i went and got antibiotics that went in water. But gave that to them after the hen was already better. She is doing fine. I had a hen i found in the yard same way next day after my one hen got sick. That hen died before i could do anything. Wish i knew what the cause was. But all chickens are doing good now. Also i limed the chicken yard and house and bleached the waterer. Hope this helps someone.

Here we go again. My 4 year old Easter Egger has Kelly Green poop (looks like paint) coming out of her butt. She is emaciated and I've been trying to medicate her but she is getting worse. I hate this part of chicken keeping! Her crop is about the size of a tennis ball and squishy. She ate some tonight and drank some. I did have a success a few months ago where my rooster was like this and thought I'd have to put him down. I did everything I could think of and he is okay now. Problem is, I did so many things I don't know which worked for him. He wasn't pooping this amount of green "paint" tho. I've tried the feeding tube before with other chickens and it just didn't work (they vomited) so not sure if I will try that with her. She may be too far gone. I love my Little Gray. Sigh.

Get her to a vet ASAP. She has an impacted and sour crop would be my guess and an infection. Same thing happen to mine and they were at death's door. They put mine on a strong antibiotic and a appetite stimulant. I had to force feed them food and water and massage their crop after giving them olive oil. Mine went from 9lbs, down to 2 lbs. both got better with the antibiotics and other stuff, but it was too late for their ovaries. They were damaged due to the bacterial infection and emaciation. Over a year later, and they are happy and healthy, but will never lay eggs again.

Well, her poop isn't green anymore but she isn't eating. I've been tube feeding her. Her crop is still an issue. Not sure how much longer I'll try this and traumatize her. I've given her Monistat which cleared up the green poop but she needs more nutrition than she is getting. It is hard to tube feed her by myself but I am getting some in her. Oy vey!

I'm having rhe same problem! My hen had been lethargic, not interested in food, big squishy crop a, d pooping green with mostly water. I seperated her and brought her inside as her comb, wattles and feet were ice cold. I also brought our molting EE in as she seemed droopy. The next day I found one of my BO's dead and bright green poop under her spot on the roost. Later that day my sick hen started passing the bright green poop. She's not as lethargic as before and plain yogurt has seemed tp help. I've since noticed that ALL my chickens are super thin and have very watery poo. It was suggested I treat for worms or cocci but IDK which to do first or if either one of those is the cause. I love my birds dearly and don't want to make a life threatening mistake. The one that died was supposed to go with DH to UCD but he forgot the bird! Any input would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to you and your Little Gray. Sending prayers your way :hugs.

You can give Corid and Safeguard at the same time. Safeguard can cause stress bars in the feathers of molting birds, but I don't worry about that if I think they might have worms. FWIW, green poop here usually means one of two things... starvation, which can be corrected by tube feed, or it means bacterial infection.

Poultry can get worms that affect the esophagus, crop, gizzard, proventriculus and intestines. Of these different worms, the only ones big enough to see are large roundworms and tapeworms. Always best to have a fecal done, but if you can't you might want to think about worming with Safeguard or Valbazen.
  • The Safeguard dose I use is 0.23ml per pound orally for five days.
  • The Valbazen dose is 0.08ml per pound once and repeat in ten days.

I put her down. She was getting so weak and looked miserable. Sigh.
Good "luck" with your gals.

Thank you Kathy! Somehow my notifications keep turning off or I would've responded sooner. I'm really baffled here as the doc at the Turlock lab said there were no parasites, cocci, etc. In the necropsy and that Fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome was cause of death. I was also told the bird was fat. I guess I have a lot to learn. My sick girl is doing better it seems. No more watery poo, no squishy crop and no more green. The fecal and feed results should be available today or tomorrow along with the prelim. I have both Corid and Safeguard paste but am holding off for the results. I do not eat eggs but my family does. Please let me know if I am handling this wrong or missing something. Thanks.
