or a lab from a pit. Or a mastiff. Basically, if it has floppy ears and looks muscular, then it's a pit.

shoot, people have trouble figuring out what my german shepherds are. Poor Singe gets called a coyote on a regular basis

I did tell someone once that it was a Deutsche Schaferhund. They said "I thought it was one of those rare breeds"

I was going to say yorkie, but Singe is afraid of yorkie. Lol

I signed the petition, it may only be North Carolina but with all things that is just the first step. I only have a German Shepherd, though I would like a pit. In my opinion no one breed should be put down because of a few dogs aggression. It is dogs, but it also hits close to home as, as a gamefowl owner people are always trying to make it illegal to own them as well as they euthanize them because they''re "unadoptable".

I've grown up around them, I still have a great many roosters and I've known far too many to even begin to count and list. There is no reason to kill those birds, doesn't matter the background; it is only due to ignorance. I know people with a lot of pitbulls, I know two boxers, I know a great dane, as well as many other dogs. I'm more scared of being around chihauhau's and dachshund's than the big dogs. I've seen many of those little dogs turn on people, and have came very close to being bitten by a dachshund before.

Pits are no more aggressive than any other dog towards people in my opinion, I think anyone else who has done a great deal of research on pitbulls or have been around a lot would agree upon the same. Many of the people here own pits, if I recall correctly.

This is Vegas, he is a lab/pointer mix. I get asked often if he is a pit bull. Sorry I don't have any good side shots of him, I have to upload some later. But I guess people see a white dog with brown patches and floppy ears so it must be a pit. I love pits, they can be very loving dogs. But they can also be dog aggressive, that doesn't make them bad dogs. My mom has Scottish Terriers, they are also dog aggressive. It just means you need to pay attention when you are out.

I'd be surprised if this was followed through.

While I can say I think the shelters are to full. Dog and cat owners are the only ones who can do anything to bring these numbers down.

As for these specific breeds? This falls into the hands of breeders who indiscriminately breed puppy after puppy to sell, with out regard to health and temperment. There are good and bad.

We owned a Rotty who I'm sure would not hurt my chickens and never hurt another human, but I'm afraid to get another because I don't trust anyone. She was the best gift in a dog we ever got.

I agree. If Houston would enforce the leash laws and other dog laws that are already on the books, there would be no reason to have breed specific laws.

I don't understand why people are against bully breeds. If their owners were more responsible and actually took the time to understand these breeds, they would not be so miss understood!!

I have been bitten by a dog before but it wasn't a bully breed, it was a yappy pomeranian. That stupid thing jumped up and bit my in the thigh, I still have a scare

Every breed can have issues, just the way it goes. We have fostered many different bully breeds in the past and everyone is dear to me.

I second that. All of the informed "top ___ aggressive dogs" list by TRAINERS are mostly toys!

first like to say I don't approve of this ban.....but posting how vicious these little guy will not help....plus they never kill people, all the breeds on the list have kill people....now my number one pick for a dog is on the list too.

Pits are not the number one breed for attack on people, but they are number one by alot on breed that kill people. It two reason , they bite and hold pulling chucks of muscle from your body. the breed will fight no matter the pain you give them. most of the other breeds you hurt them, you can stop the atrtack...not pits.

So yes the nature of the pit is the reason, for the danger with the breed.....other dogs were not bred to take the pain, or that well known bite and hold...(nickname locking their jaw) which they really don't. no other breed does that.
