SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT HERE!! I know this is a chicken website...but we all are animal lovers and have more animals than just chickens. My beloved lab mix Gator was bitten in a fight with my parents dog who is bigger than he is. :( my poor baby has tear 2 holes in the back of his neck and it's really swollen. I put some peroxide on it and I'm still paying vet bills from when my puppy got parvo and at this point really isn't an option. What can I do to keep it from gettin infected? What can I buy over the counter to help him? I'm worried about my baby. :( I had to put him in his pen tonight. Usually he jut sleeps on my back porch but I don't want him to get infected.

I'm no vet but how serious are the holes? I think that as long as you keep it clean with ointments like Neosporin and peroxide he should be fine. Dogs have good immune systems, nature expects them to get roughed up.

I have used this many times for me and kids but not a dog........
can't hurt to try it though. Sliced white bread, dip in whole white milk,
put on the wound and wrap with saran wrap, leave on over night.
I usually do this just before I go to bed but it can be tried anytime. Doing
it before bed thought is you are resting and blood flow is slower so the
drawing agent can work better. May need to try two or three times but
usually works first time for me. Good luck.

Don't use peroxide on puncture wounds. Wash the wounds. You can use a syringe to wash out any debris from inside. You can use the same triple antibiotic that is used on humans. Don't use motrin, tylenol or aspirin. Keep washing it out daily and using ointment inside so it heals from the inside out instead of scabbing over and locking in bacteria.
