Not again 😣

Miss Sprightly is very well this morning! She actually laid a perfect egg overnight, so the egg she laid yesterday must've been overdue from the previous night and just never developed its shell properly. However this one is perfect... I still decided to do calcium and follow my plan, hopefully it was a blip.

She was so happy this morning, super hungry for breakfast, and she had a cuddle and some kisses too. In a very good mood today, I'm glad to see :)
This girlie is so strong, she keeps surprising me with how well she bounces back after every issue...

@BelovedBirds
Did all of the yolk come out ?
When this happened to dasher the yolk broke inside her and we had to get antibiotics

One thing I’m wondering if she doesn’t s having the same issue as mine
Low vitamin D
This causes the calcium not to be absorbed in her
I give dasher 1ml of poly D sol infant 4 days a week then 3 days off
It’s been helping her not have soft shells
They are still thin but not soft like they were
I was seeing her eat the oyster shells so I was very confused
Dasher has now been laying eggs with no break for 23.5 months
Dasher has also been very off while laying a soft shell
Glad sprightly is doing better
I would try adding D to her for a bit

That's a good idea, I'll look into vitamin D supplements, can't hurt to try if this becomes a repeat issue again
For now she's on her calcium daily until she's laying shells properly, and this has vitamin D in it for absorption so I'm not too worried while she's on that.

Yes, I'm pretty certain all of the yolk came out, it did break, as it came out I believe, so it's hard to tell for sure- but there was no leftover yolk or egg whites oozing out, so I think it's all out her system. She also laid overnight and there was no egg residue on the shell, or signs that she had any issue with it. I would guess her system is clear now
I had this once before with Dougie, a soft shell broke and the first sign was egg yolk leaking from her vent. Thankfully that was a blip and she was just fine after

Is Dasher laying shells consistently now then?

She was having a lot of soft shells until I started D
Now it’s still thin but no longer soft and they are getting stronger
Still break easy but not as easy as before
That’s good your calcium has the D in it
Sure hope it was just a fluke egg and not going to be a regular thing again
At least you know how to help her this time

Well, I had thought she'd taken a two day break, but I found an egg in the pen today, shell was fine. Couldn't be certain who laid it, but I suspected Spright since she was acting off. I gave her some calcium because I had a gut feeling there was another egg. Then she ended up laying a soft shell egg- very frustrating....
I don't know if she laid two, or if Dougie laid the shelled egg... it did look like one of Sprights though. So I'm hoping it's another blip. She didn't struggle with the egg, she was slightly off, laid, then went bug hunting
I'll continue calcium, again until she lays well consistently

She enjoyed devouring her egg lol

Spry had an off day today
Honestly warm baths just help her so much.
Sometimes she gets like this, she acts egg bound, but is pooping and drinking, and doesn't lay until she's due to anyway, over night.
She just has a few hours time to time, where she seems so off and in pain- and then after a long warm soak in her own personal bath, she perks up and suddenly has energy again. The warm water makes her an entirely new duck...

Anyways I'm not too worried. This egg isn't coming until tonight so I'll put some nice cosy hay in the duck shed and put them to bed a little early so she can relax. She prefers to be indoors or in the coop when feeling under the weather, I think it helps so she doesn't have to feel on-guard about potential predators (not that any could get her in the pen anyway, but she doesn't know that).

I am so proud of her, she's had hardly any problems this year, and endured so much a year ago. She's a tough lil cookie. I'm sure it'll be autumn before we know it, and time for another break :fl

Sprightly in her very own duck sized bath, for anyone who wants to know her spa routine:
