Ok I have a friend and her and her husband have some chickens and have a nice coop built for them. She asked me a couple of weeks ago if my chickens have started to lay and when I said yes her next question was "Do you eat the eggs?" I was totally speechless when she asked. I laughed and finally answered, "Yes, we eat the eggs you don't eat your chickens' eggs," My friend says they don't eat the eggs that their hens lay, she says they don't even pick them up! I asked her why and she said becasue the coop is too dirty!!!! Have you ever heard of anything as silly as that? Why have the chickens if you are not going to enjoy the eggs. Just Silly.

That's insanity.

Now if I were selling all of my eggs for $4 or $5 a dozen and I ran out I'd $1.99 a dozen at the store.

I dont eat my ducks eggs, Just personal choice not because they are dirty, but because I let my ducks go broody and sit on their eggs. But Ive really never had any desire to eat them..but I dont eat many eggs either....If I did, I would probably have a few hens, I would eat chicken eggs. I just assumed that was the reason most people had chickens...for the eggs...

I do not eat my chickens eggs unless it is in baked goods etc, I just never liked the taste of eggs. The reason I have chickens is just like everyone else minus the egg part, they are fun, entertaining and every other reason that people give for having chickens.
But the dirty part is a little confusing, not only does it wash off, but if clean nest boxes are provided then the eggs should not have any dirt on them at all. Oh, well, to each their own.

I don't eat many of our eggs- they mostly go into baked goods too. My DH makes some every day, and maybe once a week we make a big pan of squaw corn or juevos rancheros. It's a texture thing. My neighbors eat 90% of our eggs. Fine with me- it pays for kids snacks at school

If you leave the eggs in the coop they are going to be dirty. All you have to do is take them out once or twice a day

Thats a new one, I know somebody who wont eat our eggs because there are roosters with the hens....
