Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

These 2 are Buff Orphingtons both the same age bought from the feed store on September 8th, 2016 making them about 6-7 weeks old now. I believe they are both Pullets but one of them (I believe it's the darker one) does challenge the two EEs of the same age that I think are Roos.
One the left is the lighter colored one and on the right is the darker one.

These 3 pics are the lighter colored one.

These 3 pics are the darker one.
I don't think these are buff orpingtons! They look more like a red sex-link or a production red!

no crow collar do not stop the crowing they just limit the amount of noise they can make. They can still Crow. I also see two pullets and 2 cockerels.
I have heard roosters with the collar and it sounds so sad. I understand the point of them is to not let the Roo get a full diaphragm of air so he can't crow as loud or for as long of a call but I don't have any experience with any real people who have used them...only YouTube videos and testimonials about the effectiveness from people who have experience with them. Do you have any experience with the collars or have an opinion on them? I guess I just have to wait and see how loud they get before I decide what to do with them. We would really like to keep the bigger red EE Roo and we are going to be moving out to the country to a farm within the next year so I'll keep my fingers crossed!

i was told this was a Delaware roo

Thank you so much for your input, that is what I was afraid of. I'm not supposed to keep a Roo in city limits here let alone two and I have read about those "No-Crow Collars" but it doesn't seem fair to take a Roo's music from him. That's part of what makes them special and I love the sound of both hens and roosters!
I've had as many as ten cockerels at a time collared in the past. They don't mind it, though occasionally they can cause skin irritation. However effectiveness varies. Some cockerels have a dramatic reduction in volume and frequency, others don't notice or react at all. One got louder.

Definitely not Buff Orpingtons - those are Production Reds. They both appear female.
These 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes are both about 6-7 weeks old now. I believe (and hope) they are both Pullets. Super friendly and sweet birds. But when I compare the two, the Darker One seems like it's starting to develop pin/pointed feathers around the neck which worries me that it might actually be a Roo but I'm not at all familiar with this breed.:idunno In these two pics (Left: Darker One; Right: Lighter One) In these two pics (Left: Lighter One; Right: Darker One) Darker One's Front of Face It kind of looks like the Darker One is starting to develop Pin Feathers on the neck so that worries me a bit that it might be a Roo. They're both pullets.

I have no personal experiences other than seeing one on a rooster one time at a friend's house. He sounded pathetic but definitely much quieter.

I would be fine with any of the above; Buff Orphingtons, Red Sex-Link, or a Production Red because they would all be good layers and I couldn't love them any less anyways! At least if they were Red Sex-Links then I could be certain that they were both hens because they were little rosy red puff balls when I got them.

YAY for the vote on all 4 of them being Pullets!!! I know for sure the sign on the brooder said Buff Orphington for the little red ones and that's what the lady at the feed store had refered to them as but for my purposes I don't think it will really matter. The only thing I have read is that they may not be as good producers for as long and their life span might be shorter which isn't great but they will be loved and treated very well.

As for the No-Crow Rooster Collar I'm happy to hear from real people that have used them because I'm always kind of skeptical about online reviews. I know that companies pay people to do that. So far the 2 boys are warming up their vocal cords so to speak

and nobody has really crowed yet. I'm hoping I can manage to keep the Red EE long enough for us to move but I will only be able to keep one Roo in the set up we have now since the little one gets picked on a bunch. I think I will give the No-Crow Collar a shot once he starts getting louder.

My husband said if I want to keep him then I'll have to figure something out because he won't let a rooster live in the house until we move!
