Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Hi there... we have 10 chicks right now, were told they are Easter eggers born Feb 23, and then leghorn X Silkies born about 2 weeks earlier. we have had leghorns before and its pretty much the only breed we know, but never had babies before. We are hoping we dont have all roosters hahaha... we have guesses but any idea what we have would be amazing! thanks in advance!!
this one we call Moe (because of the mohawk lol) always assumed she was a hen but she s pretty fiesty with everyone and today surprised us by trying to crow, so now we are not so sure... she/he is leghorn x silkie

these 3 are easter eggers i assume 2 pullets 1 rooster (my guess but have no clue)

this is our little James Franco (son is weird and just started calling it that) guess roo

assume roo

leghorn x silkie guess roo

leghorn silkie pullet (guess)

supposed to be easter egger but it looks like a much smaller leghorn

and our last leghorn silkie of course wouldnt turn to me and my camera died so best I could do at this time

@RichelleA I believe the first is a cockerel. On the EEs, I think it is pullet, cockerel, pullet. But not sure, need better pics of the one in the middle. The barred one - which parent was barred?

You have the rest right.

. Did better then we thought thanks so much. Half and half lol looks like I'm going pullet hunting

Thank you.

Do you say that because of the red combs?  Or something else you are seeing?  (Sorry, I'm a total newbie..)

I've looked at pics of hens from both breeds and they all seem to have big red combs.

Thanks again!

Yes. But mature laying hens and pullets have big red combs, young pullets don't. Only cockerels do. It's the age. You're welcome! :)

Females do not start to develop in the comb till they are nearing laying age. At only 5 weeks old, they are still months from being mature enough to lay, therefore the red combs indicate that they are cockerels.
