This is my olive egger whose name was Olivia until 2 weeks ago and you were kind enough to let me know I needed to change his name to Oliver . 2 nd surprise ... I was told his daddy was a maran and mama ee. Then I find out even though he has feathered legs these could not be his parents because of his comb and crest ( for lack of a better word). So please can you tell me is that a cushion comb. It's totally flat. Recently retired from the medical field and now I care for my 2 hens and roo. This is all so new. I'm loving every minute of it. Any help for this newbie will be appreciated. Just trying to learn so I can get colored eggs. I have a BA and SS. Do I need an EE? How many hens to a roo?

Honestly, he's probably a many generation crossbreed. Yes, he has a cushion comb, which requires both a pea comb gene and a rose comb gene. Both those comb types are dominant over the Marans' single comb. The crest is odd, but not unusual. Lots of places are using Legbars in their Easter Egger/Olive Egger programs. My best guess is that he is a combination of Legbar, Easter Egger, Wyandotte, and Marans.

I have three buff orpingtons that just hit 16 weeks old. One has been an obvious rooster from the start the other two have thrown us off completely. Just by looking at the difference between the one room and the other two were hoping that the other two are both pullets. Any ideas?

Really depends on the boy. Some are just fine with 4 to 6, some really need at least 10 or more. I find 8 to 10 to be a good starting number. For variety of egg color, hatchery Easter Eggers are great, and vent sexing is fairly accurate.
