What did the vet say?
Still at the vet. They JUST called me to let me know the dr had done an exam and didn’t find anything indicative of a problem. Didn’t feel anything in the vent. Said she’s a little underweight but knows she’s young and still growing, plus hasn’t eaten much in a day. They think if I want to investigate further, xrays would be necessary to see if there’s a blockage. 😬 So now I’m sitting here trying to decide what to do. My brain says no. My heart says yes. If I do go through with the xrays, I’d have to stop after that. I’d have to be at peace with however it turns out.

I’m so sorry your little chickie is going through this! It’s hard to make vet decisions that are expensive.... if it makes you feel better we paid $210 for surgery on our Isa Brown chicken who was attacked by a raccoon. A part of me thinks it’s crazy that we paid so much to have a chicken sewed back up but it’s been a little over a month now and she’s the best little thing ever - we have conversations daily 😂. I don’t regret the decision one bit even if some of my family thinks I’m a looney toon for spending so much money on a chicken. Only you can make the best decision for you. Thinking of of you!!

Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your experience. <3

Update !

I ended up saying yes to xrays. I’m glad I did. Goodish news. The xrays showed she had some gas and bacteria in her gut (sorry I suck at remembering the big medical words but something started with a ‘c’). So I’m getting meds to treat her with, for four days and she SHOULD get better. Hopefully. They’re giving her subcutaneous fluids for her dehydration. As long as she responds to meds, stays hydrated and eats, she’ll be okay. Vet thought it was probably something she picked up off the ground? So the others COULD have it but since they aren’t showing signs, maybe not or maybe they have stronger immune systems.

I know we’re not completely out of the woods but feeling so much more optimistic! Now if I can only get someone to bring me my bill and chicken... I would love to go home! What a long day. I’ve been here 5.5 hours. Sheesh. Worth it though. :)

i live in ohio too it has been very hot and humid my chickens get overheated too . to the point where i have had to wet them down becas of their wings .they will pant hold their wings out after i wet them cool them down they feel better . i have had to do that the pass 2 summers . you could also give your chicken some b 12 complex some vitamin d 3 and vit e for a boost for about 3 days when hot use a cold towel place it under the wings for a min or so

Can you look at the information the vet gave you and see what the diagnosis is and what medication(s) they have prescribed?
