maybe if you tell her how much it means to you to get out of where you are and how perfect it would be she would be willing to up the rent till your deposit is paid in full then lower you payments back to normal? or maybe you can work it off for her? cleaning cooking something. people are swapping for lots of things.. free eggs?

This place is actually down in Merced county in the one-horse town of Legrand in the middle of nowhere. Much of my youth was spent out in that area.

In your shoes (and add having two kids on top and being a paranoid nutso) I would do whatever was needed to get out of there. Our old neighborhood was like that, not quite as bad, but still. Beg or borrow (friends, family, church?), sell or pawn (yardsale, craigslist, any not used daily appliances, jewelry, etc), whatever you gotta do. You'll be able to make it up in coming months with the $150 you'll be saving so it is worth it, not even counting the boost in safety and sanity.
