This morning when I checked the main coop for eggs, I discovered a lot of feathers on the ground and in the hen house! They look like they're from my Americana, but she's only 9 months old, and I thought she's too young to moult? I thought that they would only moult at 16+ mos old, and usually skipped the first laying season...

broody's first silkie egg is due Friday, it's silly how excited I am!!!

I agree , loving all the chick pics! I check in here first thing these days! Its beaten facebookout big time.
Yah silkie!
Thats one Lucky duck...ooooo names... .asked my kiddlets they came up with candy corn, (its all about the lollies) Boo, .harvey/harvest ..lunar, apple,(toffee) cracker. What a cutie though! Tough duck.
I have lock down on thursday. Fingers crossed :)

Yea! for all the chicks hatching!

How does everyone keep up on this thread, lol? Replying to the question asked by DeannaA 10 pages ago about what type of incubator. I have a Genesis1588 Hov-a-Bator, with an automatic turner (what a life saver!). It's not actually mine. A friend bought it early this year and attempted two hatches of her own (not super successful) and is done hatching for the year so let me try it out. So far my eggs are on day 12 and when I candled on day 10 I saw 5 moving for sure, 4 that I am pretty sure aren't developing at all, and 12 I am not sure about. It is hard to candle such dark eggs, BCMs. My dad is letting me borrow a very bright flashlight and I am hoping to get better results tonight with my candling.
