November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Meet Mischief the rooster :) Yes I did turn a sports sock into a chicken diaper/overalls. Every time I take the lid of his brooder this one flies out for a look around. I got tired of getting pooped on, LOL! Thanks for the idea Max ;) LOL! This is one of my CCL x GLW 2 week olds. He's the only one that seems to have gotten a straight comb.

Eek! I just preordered 4 lavender leghorn chicks for next spring - 2 of each sex so I can breed and also work on Isabelle Leghorns!! Old Orchard Farms is running a special right now if anyone is interested - lots of other very special breeds at a fraction of the reglar price https://www.facebook.com/groups/Rarebreedchickenauction/ I wish I could affor to also get the Blue and Gold Partridge Brahmas right now.... :D I am nuts... because 30 breeds is not enough! LOL!

ETA - Greg Mignot is Old Orchard Farms ;)

He wants $20 per sexed lavender orpington chick. Would you say that's overpriced?

So excited to start my next hatch. Waiting on my new thermometer/hygrometer and egg candler light so I can run my bator for a while again and see if maybe my temps or humidity were off. I found someone locally whose hens are still laying strong and she is going to bring me a dozen eggs from her girls. From these I have the chance to get:
White leg horn
Rhode island reds
New Hampshire red
Barred Rock
Buff Orpington
English Blue Orpington
English Black Orpington
Austrolorpe
Americauna
Golden comet
Welsummer
Silver laced Wyandotte
Buff Brahma
Out of those the only I have now is RIR and one white leg horn and a few Americauna, so I'm very excited to see what we get!

That is the sales price. I believe his are English imports, I know most of his birds are show quality lines. I did a quick search and it looks like typical price is $40 per chick http://www.naturalark.com/poultryforsale.html The Lavender Leghorns I got for $25 ($30 sexed) normally go for $175 ($180 sexed) per day old chick or $1000 per juvenile pair :D Its actually a heck of a deal!
