Candled my eggs yesterday, Day 12, and tossed 11. One was a blood ring. I had several that looked clear when I candled on day 7 but I wasn't positive - at day 12 there's no doubt they're clear. I cracked them open and 3 were quitters, 7 were infertile. The infertiles were 6 white and 1 black silkie eggs. The quitters were my 2 partridge LF Cochin and a BBS silkie. So, with this turn of events I have 26 out of 40 eggs left. NOT the hatch rate I was hoping for. On a positive note, the remaining eggs are doing great...so much movement! I have definite movement in 23. The other three are barred Cochins and the shell is really dark so I having a little trouble deciding what's going on in there.
So...I bought the silkie eggs from a BYC breeder who regularly sells eggs and lives close enough to me for local pick-up. I got a mixed batch of colors, 10 of which were white and marked by which of the breeder's pen they came from. All of the infertile whites came from the same pen and the 3 remaining good eggs came from the same pen. This being said...would you let the breeder know one of her pens has mostly infertile eggs? Opinions please.![]()
I think it is a high risk we take when purchasing eggs... and i to have had really bad success rates with purchased silkie eggs, mainly due to infertility.
I would kindly let them know, but i would not expect any type of compensation...
sorry to hear the news...
