November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

I had a sneak peek preview candle (Day 3) tonight...don't judge me I am sure many of you have done it early before :)

Exciting to see some early signs of life, phew our rooster was hitting the mark at least with some of the girls!

Fed the girls this morning and checked on broody mama. Heard SOMETHING underneath her like egg rocking on nest box but she would not shift at all to let me see. :( I should have pips today and chicks by tomorrow I think though it's hard to say.

So, now there's a new problem! I went out this morning and one of the broodies had snuggled up with the other, leaving one of the eggs behind! (not the cracked one) I put it back under them, but it could have been out for as much as 8 hours! (the last time I checked on them. Or, maybe they waited til morning?) It was about 50 degrees this morning - probably the reason why she decided to snuggle up. Just wait and hope for the best?
Another question: if the eggs had been sitting for a few days before I put them under the ladies (shipped over 2 days, collected a few days before shipping), does that affect the timing at all? When I candled last night, the eggs looked more like the pictures of later eggs than Day 7.
Thanks! I don't know how we're going to get through 2 more weeks!

Did you candle that egg, maybe she left it behind on purpose ?

Yes, it was one of the blue eggs, and they all had good development going, as far as I could tell.
They're funny - they keep kicking out the Brahma's eggs, but they keep the smaller Andalusian's eggs - both infertile. I think it was dark and cold and she just missed one during the move.

I hate waiting....I want the chicks to start hatching now! Lol Tomorrow is day 21. I just hope we get a good hatch with no complications. This first time chick mamma isn't being very patient! I have seen 2 eggs moving a little bit so thats encouraging. I think I read too many bad hatch stories....

I want duck....lol

good luck

I love my ducks. I only have three that I ordered as day olds but I find myself more attached to them than my chickens. Maybe because there are only 3 versus 14 chickens. I read somewhere that ducks imprint on people and chickens do not. I don't know if I totally agree but I do love my ducks. I do have one Cochin that absolutely loves a tummy rub. Lol
