November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Are there eggs that quit after they've gotten all the good veins growing by around Day 4? And, if so, what does that look like? All of the pictures I've seen of eggs past Day 7 are of viable eggs, so I'm not sure what I would be looking for past Day 4, if I've already seen those eggs veined out. Do they just look the more or less the same as they did at the last point they were viable?

THIS IS THE OCTOBER HATCH ALONG

sadly 4 were cracked beyond repair but I have 26 left that get to go in the bator!! They are texas a&m quail. The eggs are so small and cute!

They are soooo cute... i want quail eggs now...

7 more days till mine hatch, then thinking of trying emu eggs... or quail... not sure to go for one extreme or the other...lol

Lol I had the same problem! I figured I would start with quail and if this goes well I'm going to get emu eggs to hatch.

My mom use to pet sit when I was little and I remember going to a lady's house to take care of her horse and emu. I absolutely loved the emu and have wanted one ever since!

Lavender Orpingtons, Splash Orpingtons, Blue Orpington over splash Marans, Silkies, BO/RIR roo over RIR and BO hens, and 2 Splash Marans are already 1 week into their incubation. Going to candle them in just a moment to see how they're doing. Hopefully no losses thus far.

October 12 is going to be terrific! 3 week olds and newborns. YEAH!

From my understanding they will have a blood ring going all the way round the circumference of the egg, and will be distinctly different from a developing embryo..... but if unsure i would leave them... (unless they stink)

All right, just candled again, and now I could see veins and interesting shapes forming on all 4 of the blue eggs! (2 CL and 2 EE). But, even with a new light setup, I still couldn't tell what I was looking at on the Marans. I think I saw blobs and air sacs on them, but I just couldn't tell what was there.
So, I'm going to try to be patient and just let my girls do their thing and see what we have in 16 days!

Y'all should see my other two, non-broody hens, snuggled up on the roost like it's just them against the world! First they suddenly lost their flock-leader Stella, and now their other two flock-mates are sitting in the nest, 24/7. They are still soldiering on, though! A big brahma, and a skinny bantam andalusian - as funny a pair as there has ever been.
