Looking forward to this hatch 12 Indian Runner Duck eggs on their way here ! Yeesssss!

So, I just did the Day 7 candle of some of my eggs, and I found a crack on one of them! It's not deep - it's just on the surface, but it's definitely cracked, in a bit of a spider form. I wouldn't have noticed it without candleing, but once I did, I can see it without the light. So sad! What should I do? The development inside seemed about the same as the others, which was actually harder to tell tonight than it was 2 nights ago. The blobs are darker and more pronounced on both the blue and dark brown eggs, but it was harder to see the veins on the blues than it was before.
Anyway, I think I'm just going to leave them all alone under my broodies now until hatch day, if I can make myself do it. Any thoughts about the cracked one?

So who was it that warned me that hatching eggs is addicting? Lol!

Yep! I've got another batch cookin' since my first hatch did so well.
Those babies are over 3 weeks old now and so far, so good! I'm SURE this will have to be the last batch for this year. (don't laugh!)
It's gotta be. The hens are slowing down. It took me 2 weeks to gather up what I've got in the incubator now. I even grabbed 4 out of the fridge (just for chuckles) to fill up a row. What the heck. Can't wait to candle on Wednesday. Hoping my Light Brahama eggs do better this round. Last time ALL of the clears(4)/bacteria ring(1)/quitters(2) I had were from those eggs. They are pretty porous. The 4 that did hatch are doing awesome. The other eggs from the Lavender roo and RIR hens and the speckled hen were 100% fine. Mine are due Oct. 16!

I have read that you can apply candle wax or was it bee's wax?) as a sealer over the crack.

I am sure someone else would be able to confirm

Update: I just dripped some candle wax onto the crack, and hopefully that'll take care of it. After searching the forums on cracked eggs, it looks like a lot of eggs with much worse cracks make it through with wax or tape, so we'll see how it goes. The two broodies keep passing the eggs back and forth, and others still come into the nest, so I'm playing with fire here, but I think separating them will just make things worse. Wish us luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have a blue coppers marans pullet named Cracks because I neve realized her egg was (badly) cracked until day five. She was developing so I just let it go. She got shrinkwrapped because the cracks let out a lot of moisture, but I helped her out and we were good to go. Here she is trying to figure out what those fluffy creatures could possibly be.

This is my first time incubating chicken eggs. I have 15 due to hatch between Wednesday and Friday. I didn't know that you could store the eggs between 65-70 degrees until your ready to incubate. We have had some temp problems so I candled a few on day 15 and saw movement. My hubby is pretty sure he heard some peeping tonight. Hopefully we will have some babies very soon! I have 3 little boys who will be very disappointed if we don't! :-/

Re-candled my 12 araucana eggs tonight, day 16. 2 clears got tossed, one has little black floaters that don't look good but lots of veins, and 9 look really positive! Now I just have to wait patiently for another five days...

Candled my eggs yesterday, Day 12, and tossed 11. One was a blood ring. I had several that looked clear when I candled on day 7 but I wasn't positive - at day 12 there's no doubt they're clear. I cracked them open and 3 were quitters, 7 were infertile. The infertiles were 6 white and 1 black silkie eggs. The quitters were my 2 partridge LF Cochin and a BBS silkie. So, with this turn of events I have 26 out of 40 eggs left. NOT the hatch rate I was hoping for. On a positive note, the remaining eggs are doing great...so much movement! I have definite movement in 23. The other three are barred Cochins and the shell is really dark so I having a little trouble deciding what's going on in there.

So...I bought the silkie eggs from a BYC breeder who regularly sells eggs and lives close enough to me for local pick-up. I got a mixed batch of colors, 10 of which were white and marked by which of the breeder's pen they came from. All of the infertile whites came from the same pen and the 3 remaining good eggs came from the same pen. This being said...would you let the breeder know one of her pens has mostly infertile eggs? Opinions please.
