November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Oh! Teehee. That's where these 4 are from, as well. We'll have floofy siblings!

I'll post oodles of pics if they make it!

Oh. my. god- I just had the biggest smile on my face! I am actually even more excited knowing you have siblings to mine! I will be posting a lot as well! When did you start turning the eggs after you received them in the mail?

Did my Day 10 candle tonight and I need some advice. Still can't see what's happening in my marans, but there seems to be something going on. Of the 4 blue eggs, 3 look great! Good veins, good other stuff, I think some movement. They're really starting to look like chicks are in there! I'm worried about the 4th, though. It's the one that had a very shallow crack, which I put candle wax on. I couldn't see veins like I could on the others. Instead, there was one large dark area and the air cell area was totally clear and larger than the cells in the others. It looked a like the pictures of Day 11 saddle cells on the Hatching 101 page. The dark section would move, but it was more like it was moving because the air cell moved, rather than of its own volition. It also had a faint smell. It wasn't a horrible smell, but there was a smell, which the others didn't have.
What do you think? Is it time to remove the egg from the nest? Wait until the smell gets stronger? Do the bad eggs have a strong smell or faint smell? The egg had good early development, so I don't want to give up on it until I'm sure it's time. Please let me know what you think!
Thanks!

:woot
I only let mine sit in a carton for 12 hours because I only saw one detached air cell, which I had to toss anyways. Probably could have popped them in straight away. Started turning as soon as they went in after that 12 hours. If you saw any detached air cells, I'd let them sit upright in a cool room for at least 24 hours and set them upright in a carton cup or something in the bator and not turn for another couple of days. Air cells can reattach if not jostled for awhile.
Again, :woot !!

I'd toss it if it were me, but you may want to wait until day 14 to check again. Watch the smell, if it gets a bad odor to it, toss it before it explodes. In my experience, if they start to smell at all, even just "eggy" and not rotten, they're dead. Also, you don't want to see a black blob with no veins that wiggles when you shake the egg. If it's jiggling around like that, it's probably dead, as well.

Def toss IMO before it blows up and contaminates the viable eggs.

Maybe consider doing the float test to be sure before tossing...

I am now officially in LOCKDOWN & this is a testing time on my patience.

Now that I can't open the bator, and I don't have to turn the eggs, I find myself going in and just watching.

Woo! I lock down for my first batch on Saturday and I'm way too excited. I've got the second incubator fired up to take the other eggs until they're ready to lock down too.

Ohhhh and when candling, before going into lockdown, all seemed perfect..

11 d'uccle's and 1 bantam sussex, all with well developed air cells, and perfectly shaped might i add.

And i have suspicions i seen one trying to internally pip, so i quickly returned the lid and the waiting game begins..
