November hatch-a-long

Pics
I have 13 eggs currently in the incubator. 9 of them are set to hatch on 11/24 and 4 on 11/29. They're all shipped serama eggs. 7 of the first batch I see definite development on, 2 are too hard to see, and the other 4 I added in today after pulling out 5 eggs from the original set that were not developing.

The 4 I added today I'm not too hopeful about because their air cells looked horrible upon arrival and they're going to be staggered, but who knows, maybe I'll get lucky! Shipped serama eggs are so difficult.

One of my pullets went broody for the first time ( she’s 32 weeks old ) and I put 5 eggs under her on the 1st. We had one go missing & another cracked ( one of the other hens must’ve been harassing her ), so I had to put her in the brooder and put two more eggs under her to replace the other two. So, the original three eggs are due to hatch on the 21st and the two are due on the 26th. Since this is Nelly’s first time, I only used eggs from my other chickens and the chicks will be a barnyard mix. I’m not even sure on who the dads are either, because I have 5 roosters. all of the eggs looked like they were developing fine when I candled, so none of them are shooting blanks haha

this is one of the day 10 eggs. its from one of my ISA browns, so the dark shell is hard to see into.

this past weekend we managed to hatch out 2 necked necks(one white one black cuckoo) one white full feathered and 6 black australorp babies from BIG Dark eggs. very excited! this next couple weekends will be quail hatches.... I am thinking about putting one more batch of quail in. I was very happy with the way the first batch cooked up

So I just got my incubators today! Testing it out tonight and hope to start the eggs tomorrow. I’m excited but more concerned. I keep reading articles on incubation and it seems simple enough but also quite easy to fail at. And then I’m thinking to myself do I really need more chickens? LoL but I have some lovely Blue and Gold Partridge Brahmas, I’d love to see their progeny.

My house chicken has gone broody with the worst timing. She's a serama so she'll be perfect for my broody coturnix quail project but my quail are all molting right now! I don't have any quail eggs! :barnie
I'll just let her sit on her own eggs. Here's some history about her and her rooster. Her roosters name is Squeaky. Unfortunately he has some sort of heart problem so that if he gets stressed out even a little his comb begins to turn purple and he puffs himself up in a corner. It's only happened twice. We thought his comb was getting frost bite so we brought him and his hen, Coconut, inside the house. Soon we realized that this happened when he got stressed. His hen did not have these problems but she was happy to stay in the house. Unfortunately in February of this year his hen passed away do to egg binding. He was lonely for a while but we got him a new hen in late March. He doesn't act the same but he's happier. Now in November his hen, who I've named Butterscotch has gone broody with three eggs.
