Chicks due 18th!Anyone have a hatch due in November? I have 8 chicks hatch a week and half ago. Last Sunday I lost 3 of my flock to a fox, one of them being my only rooster. Soooo I put 13 eggs in the incubator last Sunday, they are due Nov 4 .I have 9 laying hens, 8 chicks, and 13 eggs cooking
This is my first year with chickens, my 2 nd hatch and my first winter with all sizes/ages of chickens!
Anyone else hatching in November?
We have 2 pips!! I Buff Orp and 1 Polish!Omg!! I came home from work today and I have a pip! I picked it up carefully and got a very strong Peep peep peep back!!
I wasn't expecting any until the weekend. That's only day 19, usually with my broodies I've had to wait till day 23. However, this broody is the most dedicated I've had. She is off the nest for like 5 mins a day and sometimes not at all!
How exciting.
It's a Buff Orpington that's pipped.
Good luck!I just went into lockdown last night. My eggs from Meyer hatchery did well so far. Out of the 22, only 2 welsummers for sure died during the early stages (blood rings). 20/22 eggs are in lockdown and they have all filled the egg so that when candling it's dark inside. Some of the welsummers have always been hard to see but the air cell and minor movement made me believe there is some hope. My lavender orpington eggs didn't do so well, out of 12 about 8 never showed any signs of development (no veins whatsoever) and a couple died midway through. 1 is in lockdown with the others but it doesn't look as promising. We'll see what all hatches. They are in a little giant for lockdown with 2 thermometers/hygrometers inside as the built in hygrometer has always been off with its reading. Saturday is the expected hatch day
