I have 4 out of 6 so far. They are so cute!! 3 Buff Orps and a fuzzy headed Polish!
Only 2 to go and they are Speckled Sussex, just wondered if anyone knows if they take longer to hatch?

Yeah, I thought so, I'm not holding out much hope for my remaining 2, they've been the 2 that were kind of iffy all the way through when candling, I will leave them for another day or 2 and then I'll discard.Nope, just the regular length of time for Sussex.
I am not an expert, so hopefully someone with more experience will offer some help. At this point, I wouldn't do any more candling. I would wait it out (I know it isn't easy). And, it is my understanding that "21days" is an average, not an exact time. I recently hatched 23. Some came early, some came late, some came on time. Remember, a hen doesn't candle to see when they have internally pipped. She just waits, lol. Maybe that's why they are so grumpy when they are brooding!Aaaaaaahhhh!
Late update for day 10 when I candled to see who was developing and who wasn't, out of my 7 silkie eggs 3 didn't develop at all. I cracked them open and there was absolutely nothing that went on in them, just infertile or otherwise failed to develop.
Day 15 I candled and one chick wasn't moving anymore, yesterday and today, days 19 and 20, I candled the immobile chick and it still hasn't changed since day 15. I cracked it open and it does indeed look like it passed between days 14 and 15. It's intestines look like they were maybe moving into the chick, but only got part way in when the chick passed away. Does anyone know what the cause might've been?
More importantly, it's the middle of day 20 and when I hold a flashlight up to the air cell of my three remaining eggs I don't see an internal pip yet, and I'm super nervous. One chick was wiggling enthusiastically and looks like it'll pip soon, but two were still. I hope this just means they're just going to be a little late hatching, should I worry? I know disturbing them while they're trying to hatch is dangerous, but how often is it safe to hold a flashlight to them? Without picking them up, that is.
Congrats on a successful hatch!!Final Results of the first hatch:
7 out of 8 welsummers hatched
6 out of 7 easter eggers hatched
blue andalusian hatched
rhode island red hatched
buff orpington hatched
black australorp hatched
17/21 in lockdown hatched, the lavender orpington I had doubts about before lockdown so there was little surprise. I was very surprised when I saw so many on saturday night as I was in and out of the house moving this weekend. My second attempt that was started a bit later includes some quail eggs and a few eggs from a semi-local supplier - alchemist farms, is due for hatch this sunday so we'll see how it goes.
