I just found a wild game hen under a bush near the office a week ago with 13 chicks. Caught her and put her on the porch; sheets and old fuzzy bathrobe underneath, made a small tent with sheets and a warm jacket on top, they nestle together but it's going to be 35 tonight and they are nine days old. Might need to put a light nearby to keep them warm. They were wild birds and I wonder if the mother hen knew what she was doing...can they survive 35 degrees at 9 days old? I'm in North Georgia. And my rental is fully carpeted, even the bathroom. Can't bring them in.

If you where closer I would give you an EE chick to keep it company. I have several. What breed are your eggs?

supposed to be black sexlinks
I have a RIR roo and I selected my lighter brown eggs that come from Cuckoo Marans and Barred Rock hens (the other girls are BCMs and their eggs are darker) - I've not been getting as many eggs though, so when I set these some were old and didn't grow. I set 20 and I'm down to 8 - I'm not taking any more out, whatever hatches hatches. Lockdown is tomorrow!

Had a temp spike today while I was gone to work. It hit about 102, but in my experience it will probably be OK since in a still air the bottom half of the incubator is only 98ish when the top is reading 102 - interior temps in the eggs tend to be somewhere in between the extremes. I'm thinking of getting/making a "water wiggler" for my next hatch, but thus far I've been ok with guestimations.

I'm sending good hatching angels your way. Good luck

I'm setting a bunch later tonite 8 of my Cuckoo Marans and 5 olive eggers and a doz of blue wheaten Ameracaunas that I won off Ebay company for my 4 turkey eggs the craziness starts again...I am in love with the blues and I don't know where I'm going to make a pen for these when the time comes for them to be separated but with shipped eggs they don't hatch out well though these are from Ca so maybe I'll have better luck I just want a trio of the Ameracaunas
