Last batch of 12 eggs are due this weekend. Not sure how well the broody is sitting....I have nothing that can candle these dark olive eggs and the broody is too aggressive to deal with. I only know how many eggs she is sitting on because she was off the nest geting a snack this morning when I walked by.

Two of my incubators went into lockdown last night - these were the Octagon20 units. Two MiniAdvance units go into lockdown on Sat.

Plus I just loaded the third Octagon20 with 24 eggs two nights ago.

I am officially insane. But loving' it!

two of my chicks have died on day 2 of unknown causes. Is it normal to lose a few?
I know how to raise chicks. This is my first hatch, not my first time raising chicks. I have had very few chick losses in the past.

I've only lost one of my own hatched chicks from unknown causes.
He hatched out quite vigorous, but he just wouldn't shut up! He died within 24 hours of being in the brooder, I suspected genetic problems or internal deformities. He looked fine, but since he wouldn't ever shut up I figured something must not have been right. The eggs were Easter Eggers, and 2 of the same ones were clears, 3 others died in the shell about day 18 and only one (a roo) lived on and he was REALLY slow to feather. I got the eggs from Chicky Tocks and she never had any luck hatching them either - we suspect they had genetic problems.

If it's only one or two, who knows. It's not normal to loose a bunch though.

I am disappointed to not have any more pips yet, but one of the eggs was definitely moving when I got home from work today. I hate not knowing what's going on in there!!! My flashlight is about to need batteries from me constantly checking for pips! hehehe

My pullet that is due to hatch tomorrow currently has 1 chick out & dry & 1 chick fully zipped. 6 more eggs hopefully a few more will make it out. She is pretty young, just 6 months.

i cleaned out the bator the other day and all the silkies, rosecombs, and dominiques are doing great. just sat 23 more eggs yesterday, 11 barnevelders and 12 silver spangled hamburgs. Has anyone had any experience with Gabbard Farms? Thats where i got them from. the barnevelders are supposed to be from some high quality stock. Just curious if anyone else out there has hatched any from them and what kind of quality did they give?

PEEPS! I have PEEPS coming from the eggs under my broody hen! I can't wait to see what will be there under my hen come morning. This is our first broody and our first hatching using nothing but the forces of mother nature.
