November Hatch -- Who's going to have late fall babies?

Hi there, we are relatively new to bird ownership, have 13 guineas and 5 chickens: 1 EE rooster, 1 EE hen, 1 buff Orpington, and 2 mixes, and set 6 eggs from everyone but the EE hen (sigh) in our new (used ) incubator on Saturday. Temp holding at 99, vacillated to 100 here and there in our still air incubator, humidity is up around 55%. We are very excited, I must check it a dozen times a day. My husband says I'll pop before day 21!

I'm a dog trainer by profession and obsession, and have raised the keets since they were 2 days old, but never hatched anything ourselves. I'm a little nervous about doing a hatching this late in the year for our first time, but we're just outside the DFW metroplex so I'm hoping our weather will be mild this year.

Our 2 year old son is only a little less excited, he can't wait for the "peeps" to "stop sleeping" and come out!

Thought we'd try to candle this weekend, 3 eggs are brown, 2 are white--not sure what we'll see...

2 days down, 14 or 15 to go, depending on the vagaries of nature!

One egg had a tiny bit of ooze on day one. Perhaps the post office beat that one up a bit. It stopped and sealed over, though, so I'm leaving it in the incubator. Considering the one hatched that I mushed really badly last time around halfway through, I want to give it a chance!

I have a broody bantam sitting on 4 RIR/? eggs. They are due to hatch around Nov 20th. These will be our first hatches on our new farm. Well we think it is a farm..

Me too! I set a dozen easter eggers just now. Told hubby it would be prudent to test the new incubator I built, and I think he actually bought it.

What does the ooze mean??

It was either cracked or rotten, usually rotten in my experience

I'm sure it wasn't rotten as it was only about three days old when it went in the incubator. It may have had a tiny hairline crack that wasn't visible to the eye. It was shipped through the USPS so that probably explains the cause.

Chances are pretty high that it won't hatch. I know which egg it is and am keeping a really close eye on it. If I smell any stench, it will be my first suspect. After my experience last time with an egg I almost through away -- major smushed area in the shell at day 8 or 9 -- I am reluctant to throw an egg away too quickly.
