November Hatch -- Who's going to have late fall babies?

Hahaha I live in a 560sq ft house with two Large dogs and an XL hubby. There isn't really room in here for extra feed sacks, but I HAVE done it! When I brood chicks inside I put them in a rubbermaid on top of the dog's crates, so that not only are they safe from the dog's licks, but not taking up any extra space. Har har!

We have plastic totes all over the place with feed in them. Each one holds50 - 100 pounds of feed. The two by the big coop hold 100 lbs each, the one for the goat holds 50 at a time, them the ones in the shed are starter which holds 100 at a time then the scratch 100 at a time and the layer crumbles is 100 at a time and the grower/finisher is also 100 at a time. I only keep a gallon icecream bucket of starter and one of layer and scratch grains in the house. I always have chicks in here especially in winter and I have a house chicken, she's gotta eat too.
We filled everything up this weekend and we'll see how far it goes. Now that we have 2 huge turkeys, probably not far. And he wanted me to get rid of most of the chickens because the feed bill was to high and he goes and gets 2 grown turkeys. He would have gotten the other two but he couldn't figure out where to put them on the way home. He had to buy a cage to put them in and i'm amazed he got them in it.

I "need" to buy plastic totes for feed. Or, better yet, $15 black garbage cans on wheels. I think those would hold 3 bags each.

I'm going to need to buy 3 bags of feed at a time if I keep hatching babies.

Where do you get $15 trash cans on wheels???? The only thing they sell here that is sturdy enough to put 150# of feed in cost just as much as the galvanized metal cans, which is around $30. I buy the metal since my cans are outside and plastic degrades too fast.

Even the REALLY cheap trash cans that I put aluminum cans in for recycling run dang near $15 and they are flimsy as all get out.
Consider yourself lucky I guess

I think it was Wal-mart. I'm not sure if it would hold 3 bags of feed and still roll. It would probably hold two - at least if it were on concrete. I use mine to hold dirty poultry litter because it has a lid that SCREWS down, instead of just sitting on top. Then, it sits out back waiting to be rolled out to the garden area to be dug into the soil or turned into the compost pile.

All of my feed is in my basement. It's really dry down there. I'd like to get it into containers just to help prevent potential rodent problems.

Edited to add: These aren't the super heavy duty rolling trash cans. They are lighter weight.

Ah I see. A dry basement eh? My parent's basement is better than most - finished for living, but it can still get kinda musty if you aren't using heat or a/c to dry the air.

I use metal cans and a dolly cart = trash can "on wheels"

ETA: can you tell I'm bored waiting on that first pip??? I did all the stuff I was supposed to do today. Finished my chicken pen expansion, went to TSC, cooked dinner, washed some eggs and took them to my in-law's, took the dogs on a little outing and tucked the feather kids in their new pen.......I've got nothin left to do 'cept wait! lol I *guess* I could go wash some more dishes, that's a neverending chore....meh

My basement is unfinished, mostly. It's so dry, though, that I keep my magazine collection & half of my books down there and don't worry about them.

We do heat it & cool it, though. We use it a lot plus have our reptiles, exercise equipment, and other stuff down there. Even with all of that off it stays dry, though.

I had a pip when I got up this morning!!! But I've been gone to work all day and nothing else has happened. I was HOPING to come home to a fuzzy butt in the bator! Meh I will be off all day tomorrow so that will be intense! I'm hoping some will hatch while I'm asleep tonight so at least I'll have something to look at besides the same eggs I've been turning for the last 3 weeks
