NY chicken lover!!!!

I am going to be selling our B/B splash Americaunas. There is a black rooster, 3 black hens and a blue hen. All are 1 year old this spring. I also have 5 chicks that are 2+ weeks old and I was told they are Americaunas as well. They were a science fair project and the eggs were bought from MPC. AND, after Easter I will have more chicks available. Make me an offer!!

Is the rooster the daddy for my black ameraucanas?

I shouldn't ask, as to thwart any potential future obsessions

, but "why?" Obviously, there is the ridiculous off-the-charts CUTENESS FACTOR. But what else would make you choose ducks? What's their personality like?

* Just read the praises on duck eggs after I posted this question, so obviously, that is one reason!
I fell in love at the site of Stony's ducks last year. I want them so bad but I could only get 2-3 and I have to convince my husband as well. I want them just for their personalities. They're just so cute and I could probably watch them for -ever!

at least with my duckers, no pecking order issues, ever. Even introducing new ducks. They actually seem genuinely happy to meet new ducks. The eggs are beyond massive and delicious. A minute factor, but having all of the eggs 1st thing in the morning is REALLY helpful when the temp is below freezing. They play all of the time. Constant entertainment. All day long they play, I call it duck olympics. In and out of the water, chasing each other. They always look happy. Tail feather shaking, "funky ducking" wing flapping good times. And yes, cute as a button. Did I mention the eggs are killer?

.

Out to lock up all of the coops . I'll be SO glad when mud season is over, even if the duckers (or as I call to them "Duckairs..... yelled like Hey Mr. Kottair.... horseshack....lol) ...anyway I'll be glad when mud season is over even if the duckers are having the times of their lives,

btw they seem pretty jealous of flying ducks. Lots of puzzled one eye to the sky looks every night as the wild black ducks are flying overhead as I'm locking up the duckers

Ducks are too messy for me (chickens are bad enough, ducks are cute little piggies!) but one of these days I need to try duck eggs. Neighbor down the street has a few ducks, maybe someday he'll trade me some eggs for chicken eggs so I can try them. :)

I don't know if I could bring myself to eating one. I'm not a big fan of eggs myself - the only way I eat them is scrambled. My husband makes omelets, sunny side up, scrambled, deviled eggs, etc. So I would be curious as to what he would create with duck eggs.

I understand that Duck eggs are denser because they contain less water. There is more but I don't recall. I think they have less cholesterol.

I have some recipes for Microwaved eggs. I just can't find it right now but I will.

Evening all! I see you have all be quacking it up over ducks. They are very cute but I will stick with my chickens. I hope nobody got flooded out with all this rain. Hows your chicken water park Rancher? Dh got home in time to pump out the back yard before it flooded the basement. Snow and rain made for quite the pond back there.

Olaf and his brother Hane have been tusseling with each other. Hane is now an outcast and hides in the coop or under it to get away from Olaf. I am wondering if I should just put Olaf in chicken jail for a while or will this make things worse? They have 19 hens and have always gotten along until the past couple of weeks. I feel bad for Hane because of the two, Hane is the most gentlemanly with the girls. I will have to watch and see.

I candled my silkie eggs tonight and only had to pull 2 out of 16. Those two were clear. This is great news and I am hoping to get them all the way to hatching. I will be candling the heritage rir and other 4 silkie eggs in the other bator on saturday. Hoping they prove good as well. Did I mention two of my silkie hens are also sitting on and egg each? They are so cute, laying right next to each other brooding their egg. If all goes well I should have a nice bunch of blue bearded silkie chicks! I have found that both the hovabator genesis and the brinsea octo 20 hold their temps and humidity well and recover quickly after the top has been opened.

Hoping we get some sun and warmth soon or I am going to have to open a mud wresting pit and start charging for the festivities!

The pond out back is making headway at meeting the water flooding the lawn. I wish I had a backhoe. I would install a "drain" on the pond, even if it isn't on my land or my pond, cuz it FLOODS MY LAWN and I am sick and tired of having standing water on the lawn until May. I really should get some ducks, they would have a blast out there in all this water. The chickens HATE it. The only good part is they don't run up to the house every single time I open the door to go out for a smoke cuz they don't want their feet to get wet. Just because I have a teeny tiny mean streak in me I threw the can of left over cat food right off the deck, so they had to walk through the water or not have their favorite treat. Bruahahahaha!!!

Cuties ! I cant wait to see how mine feather out ..when mature ...They can have all different patterns ..
They were so cute tonight ..They are in our kitchen ..
They were doing their little Jibber Jabber ...Then I covered them up for bed ..It became shrill & louder ..
Like Mommy dont leave me ! Or I dont Want to Go to Bed LOL

This was before we put them to bed
Cute little blue coat butts !
Their butts are super cute, yeah I can't wait to see how the feather out I've started to notice some amber flecks in them as their feathers come in.

So I did a bad thing this morning. I went to TSC. I just needed to get threaded screw fence gate holder thingies and there were khaki Campbell ducklings on clearance for $2.50 each. There were 14. I bought them all. I have a friend that has a lot of ducks and he said that he would brood them and that he actually will buy the majority of them from me, I called him first to see if he wanted any. I will probably keep 6. They are so cute!!

Awwwwwww that is so cute I understand it happens, I went to get my two silkies and bought a third bird that was a Barred Plymouth Rock (small for her breed but super size compared to the silkies) she didn't like the other barred rocks so she would fly into the silkies coop so the breeder kept here there and we took her home with her "sisters."

I'm kinda new to all of this but I do want an Americauna especially the blue hen 1yr old, how much do they usually go for?

Yes and one of those ladies are the Momma!

Ducks are messy and I try getting some every year but always end up giving them to a friend that has pretty much all waterfowl. He is 2 miles away and I can visit whenever I want. So, I keep them now and if it dosen't work out I have a great place for them to go. I do have Mandarin ducks and they are great. Not too messy and very pretty. I am hoping with these being on the smaller size they will be good as well.

They are alot better in many ways. I just found a link to a comparison chart.
