NY chicken lover!!!!

I have no trouble shoveling manure if need be. I do appreciate the offer. Mderby offered to bring and she knows why I didn't come and get it. Her and her hus. are nice. You will like them when you meet them. If we have another NY picnic.

April is fine. I just filled the incubator with more eggs and it's racing to heat up. Many more BR's in this one. Will follow Marq's advice on humidity and hope it means a better hatch.

Sounds good, Rancher. Good luck with a GREAT hatch.

PS: even after a few brief PM's, I can tell Mderby is a nice gal.

Here is a pic of the red rooster my friend is looking to adopt out. I won't put his mug on here any more nor further plead his case, but she emailed me the pic tonight, so I thought I'd wrap up by posting it.

The White Leghorn will be happy with Mderby's Leghorn Ladies!

I didn't have time to read 100+ posts, so I'll just have to skip. Welcome to any newbies.

I'm getting ready for an open house this weekend for my SIL's shop where I sell some product. Lots of work to be done.

I'm still having problems with that one roo and my hen, but I may have discovered why (or at least a partial reason). LICE! I was assuming she was missing butt feathers from others picking on her. I was checking for lice/mites tonight after they roosted and discovered a vent full on an australorp.

I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Anyone have any feelings what works better... pymethrin powder or Eprinex? Good Lord! Between lice and roundworms, I have had MY FILL of pests! Blah!

But it does sort of make up for it, watching my dozen little chicks sleeping in a pile next to me.

I have had issues with lice. I have used "natural" and organic products. I prefer to keep things organic. But !! the only thing that worked for me, was to use eprinex. It gets rid of round worms as well. Whatever you decide on clean all bedding , medicate, and do the whole thing again in 2 weeks. I had a hard time getting rid of the lice. Eprinex worked after trying may other methods. Good luck!

Well, that manure keeps coming, regardless of whether or not someone wants it.

My friend started growing her own hay last year, so she'll spread some, but there should be plenty to share with Rancher!

Sorry about the Buckeye eggs -- hope they show up in good shape tomorrow.

Today was typical March weather: a hint of spring, but mostly winter with lots of blowing in and out snow squalls. Coop construction continued, nonetheless!

Thanks! Hoping they show up

I'm leaning towards Eprinex. You just get the pour on for cattle, right? How many drops and in what places?
Seems it will be easier than dealing with a powder, plus I like the fact it controls roundworms, too!

Just gave the chicks a new box (more space) with all new wood chips and I'm enjoying sitting here watching them play. I know I swore against hatchery chicks, but... I couldn't resist and I don't have a broody!
