NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm leaning towards Eprinex. You just get the pour on for cattle, right? How many drops and in what places?
Seems it will be easier than dealing with a powder, plus I like the fact it controls roundworms, too!

Just gave the chicks a new box (more space) with all new wood chips and I'm enjoying sitting here watching them play. I know I swore against hatchery chicks, but... I couldn't resist and I don't have a broody!
I have forgotten the dosage, but you just drop it (on the skin, so you have to work the dropper down through the feathers) on the back of the neck....the only place that they can't get their little mouths/beaks on. I *think* the dosage is .5 ml for bantams/large chicks and 1 ml for full size birds. Someone correct me if I am wrong, please, before she kills her chickens cuz of my advice. (and please notice the POINT before the 5 ) I do LOVE the product ....it works great...kills just about anything that birds can get.

It's nice to come home from work and hear the "MAMA!" peeps from the duckehs.

Poor Captain Morgan is still lying low after his tailfeather-kicking. I cleaned him up, and it looks mostly like he's just swollen around his face from his battle. He's up and around, but the poor dude is sleeping separately at night, as he's still having trouble fully opening both eyes. Argh. I'll keep looking after him, and he should be OK. Chickens are tough as nails.

Quote: Pretty fun ! & funny too..thanks

Here is a pic of the red rooster my friend is looking to adopt out. I won't put his mug on here any more nor further plead his case, but she emailed me the pic tonight, so I thought I'd wrap up by posting it.

The White Leghorn will be happy with Mderby's Leghorn Ladies!

Good night, everyone!

Chickprincess--the dosing for eprinex is 5 cc for large fowl. Drop it on their skin on the back of their neck where they cant reach it with their beak. Stuff works great.

Ginny and Stony---love that you are playing along!

Yes, I got the pour on Eprinex for cattle. I use .5ml for LF. On the smaller girls probably about .4ml and .6 ml on my roosters who are bigger. Ivermectin is a fairly safe drug, but wear gloves when working with it. With your hand pull (brush) the hackle feathers toward the head and apply the eprinex directly on the skin. I find the markings on the oral dose syringe come off and the pluger gets sticky, so have some extra syringes on hand. Remember that this is an off label use!! And do it when you can follow up in a few weeks.
it's a song from maybe 10 years ago. As soon as I saw UNO I thought of that song.

That was my thought when Pharmchick said pass.
Ugh, when is this wind going to stop?! Glad that most of the snow melted off the lawn and it now refroze so no muddy mess, but ice in the driveway has also returned, thankfully not nearly as bad. All critters are staying in the barn today, but even the wind is blowing through there. Hens are still laying at least 7 per day, had another 10 for 10 day this week. Had a couple egg casualties this week. Little girl dropped one when it slipped as she was setting in the basket, hubby dropped one last night. Little girl has been very enthusiastic about the chickens lately. She was thrilled to gather eggs in a basket the one night. Then she picked up all her toys in record time to watch a chick hatching video or some pictures. She has also reached the age of imaginitive play. She pretends to be holding a baby chick or duck in her hand, softly petting it, then toss it in the air to watch it fly.

Makes me a little worried for when we do get real live baby chicks this spring.

Yes, NH Reds, that's what she told me they were. They had two tubs of chicks, she said they were different though. And she also told me about the shipment coming in tomorrow. I wasn't loking to buy any chicks, just wanted to see what they had, I went into get my brooder supplies and feed. I'll have to go back and get a heat lamp for brooder though, I want to use the silver shield and a red bulb.

Yeah they had the NH Reds and some Cornish Rocks. They had a tub that used to have silkies in it, and they were marked down to $1.99. It's bad I can't buy any more chicks (or rather I shouldn't) but it's just so tempting...

I didn't have time to read 100+ posts, so I'll just have to skip. Welcome to any newbies.

I'm getting ready for an open house this weekend for my SIL's shop where I sell some product. Lots of work to be done.

I'm still having problems with that one roo and my hen, but I may have discovered why (or at least a partial reason). LICE! I was assuming she was missing butt feathers from others picking on her. I was checking for lice/mites tonight after they roosted and discovered a vent full on an australorp.

I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Anyone have any feelings what works better... pymethrin powder or Eprinex? Good Lord! Between lice and roundworms, I have had MY FILL of pests! Blah!

But it does sort of make up for it, watching my dozen little chicks sleeping in a pile next to me.

We use Ivermectin pour on for cattle. Off-label and really cheap. My DD and I go into the coop once all all roosting at night and using a syringe with NO NEEDLE, drop 5-6 drops on the skin of the neck of each standard-sized bird. Reapply in 10-12 days. Problem is that we will not eat or hatch any eggs for 2 weeks after each dosage so I try to do this in the winter when they aren't laying anyway. If you have them now I would dose and buy eggs from another chook-keeper for the next month.

I cannot go back to TSC. NO NO NO!
