NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone else have homebody chickens? They go out for a min but then when ever i check on them they are back inside the coop with the roo crowing away for them in there. Today i chased them all out and closed the door for a bit. The light sussex i have doesnt know how to use the ramp to get out of the coop it litterly takes her like 15 min to get out of the coop. She debates on jumping off the step or not. Some times i have to pick her up and set her down outside. They use the man door to get in and out as of now.

Rancher,

See what i mean about size! I wasnt expecting the silkie to stay so small!

Silkes' are a bantam breed so it only stands to reason they will be smaller. Can they get along with large birds? I think so. They just hypnotize everyone else to leave them alone.

My Frenchy is a bantam and see seems fine. Though I do worry George will hurt her so I may have to figure some other arrangement. A bantam rooster with larger girls is better than the reverse.

Breella ~ Is that the silkie chick from Pearl?

Well my eggs are done. I'm pretty sure they're dead. I did the "float" test today before I decide they are done and they just floated once the water was still. No jerky movements from them. And candled again as well, same as this morning. I want to get rid of these before they go bad and begin to smell or explode even. I tried all the "tests" people have posted on here and other site to confirm an egg is dead. The scratching/tapping to see if you hear scratching back from inside the egg, the movement when floating, still nothing coming from them, no movement, no peeping so I'm assuming they're done. That float test is pretty cool. I'm tempted to take one of Stella's eggs but they're still on day 20. I wont try it unless one goes past day 21 so I know they got those 3 days of "lockdown".

I went out to the silkie coop today because the other hen and chicks seem pretty sad in there. I'm wondering if that splash hen who's broody is giving them a hard time. When I opened up the door she's sitting in front of I saw a couple of blotches of blood in the shavings. Have no idea what that could be from. No one seems injured, there was nothing else left behind with it. Weird.

The broody's that have killed their young are Black Copper Marans and EE's. I had a sizzle sit for a very, very long time but our temps were consistently below 10 for a long time. She might have succeeded if I had left her alone. Both BCM and EE literally ate the hatched chicks. They were so gross!
I had 2 mixed bantams that were terrible mothers. Sat the whole time, protected the eggs, then at hatch killed the chicks. Luckily for mee I kept a good watch over them so I only lost a few chicks. And this spring, an Australorp, hatched out 2 chicks and threw them out of the nest. They weren't so lucky, I found them when I got home from work. The remainder of the eggs went under my bantam cochins. They are FANTASTIC Mommas. I also had a BLRW hatch eggs for me this spring, she was a good momma too !!

It's the pictures of mine isn't it! Sucked you right in!

lol. They are quite adorable. I went to the PO to ship 2 boxes of Runner hatching eggs and the postmaster who is also a friend asked me if I knew anyone who wanted them. They hatched them under a Guinnea. I of course said I would take them. I just need to set a fenced in area for them and clean out the Runners old coop. Otherwise I would be heading out now to get them
