NY chicken lover!!!!

Unfortunately, I lost Gobbles a couple of days ago. He/she wasn't doing well anyway, and that leg was really concerning me, as it seemed to be worsening, so it's for the best - at least I didn't have to do it myself. Still, dang. I also lost another small poult who was failing to thrive, which also doesn't surprise me. I still have fourteen left, though, and they're more than a handful! They're now in the pegboard pen, and loving it.

These turkeys are ridiculously endearing things that run TO you instead of away from you.. If I'm next to the pen, they try to fly to the top of the wall to be near me. I went out and bought bird netting and bamboo stakes to make a little fence around them, as otherwise I'll be finding poults wandering all over the garage.

It was the other employees that warned me about getting shorted.   It happens.   You can keep very detailed records for yourself and fight for every cent they owe you or you can get on with enjoying your life.  I choose the later.  Plus they don't pay me for the hours I spend fighting with them about a $20 shortage and they would be numerous hours....not fighting actually saves me money.  LOL

As long as you are happy that is all at really matters

I hear some very faint peep peep peeps coming from Stella's eggs!!!!!!!

Oh good luck

I am hoping that one day I can manage it enough to have a child of my own. We will see, the root of my troubles are genetic and the doctors told my aunt for 12 years it wouldn't happen for her and she now has two beautiful girls.

Doctors told me the same thing for the same reason and 6 babies later I had a new doctor try to tell me that I would never be able to have a baby I looked at him laughed and said you might want to read my chart first .

Sorry about Gobbles.

I have had children. 3. All "natural childbirth", since I am allergic to novacaine so I couldn't have a spinal and anything else slows down the labor. I have had kidney stones. 3. I can tell anyone who wants to listen that kidney stones hurt more than child birth. However they are different kinds of pain. Kidney stones are kinda unrelenting getting worse at night when you are trying to sleep and recharge your batteries. Labor pains hurt INTENSELY for 60 - 180 seconds. Then they end. Until they come back (at regular intervals). While they are not hurting you can rest and if lucky drift off to sleep for 3 - 5 minutes. Morphine works well for kidney stones. Not so good for childbirth. (something about hurting the baby? LOL) If I had to choose I would choose having the baby, but then I love to rock babies to sleep. And you can never rock a kidney stone to sleep.

What' I've learned about kidney stones is to drink lots of water to keep that thing moving. The last time I spent two days drugged up. Slept much of those two days too.

I work for one of the largest Health Care organizations in the State of NY. If you don't watch your paycheck they don't pay you for all the hours you work. Once they didn't pay me for the Paid Time Off (PTO) I put in for to enhance my paycheck that week. (I had a slow week and needed the boost to have a "regular" paycheck)

It does get old, so I just don't do it. If I get shorted 20 - 40 dollars, oh well. I love my job, so I put up with the clerical errors that are bound to happen when you are part of any organization.

Well 20 - 40 dollars is a deal to me. I work hard and good garden o' peas I ain't about to be cheated since I don't cheat them. I am double dog tired today. Clerical errors my foot! Time clocks don't lie.

Lynzi,

I'm really sorry about your chick that Duncan killed. How horrible. Every time I think I might be able to mix my big hens with the youngsters without supervision, one of the smaller birds takes a hammering. Not sure what I'm going to do, except keep trying in little steps, but it's stressful. We are so attached to those 3 younger birds now, I'd hate to have something happen...so I can imagine how upset your were to lose one of yours.

On a brighter note, here are some up to date pics of a couple of the bigger girls having some down time.

Ursa the lounge lizard and Pringles, enjoying some sunshine.

Pringles, my Delaware, fluffed up and happy.

"Pass the sunscreen, please."

TOB

How much room do they have? I just put two younger ones in the pool with two del and on older EE and they seem ok.

Thanks for the info. I was. Wondering if it was a mating thing. All my chickens are too little for him. Only one is even close to his size. He must like the crazy feathers.

Sorry, but I see it that the time I spend getting them to pay me, is time I'm not working and time lost doing my job. I've not had a problem here but there are other places where I have. Even the U.S.P.S.

For what it's worth, I hope I don't have problems cuz I think I like this job and the people I work with. Well most, one guys swears a lot but I don't have to work side by side so I can deal with it.

I don't have time to go into the details but miracles can happen and have.

Correct, time clocks don't lie, however it takes a human being to input those time clock numbers into the payroll system. They see 9 - 4 and input 6 hours. Human error. Oh well. Go to human resources and fill out a complaint form and have them investigate and you get your money....but is it really worth it when you could be out doing something fun? 20 - 40 bucks is a big deal to me too, but I just have better things to do with my time than haggle over that little each month. If you are going to keep track so you are sure to get paid for all your time you should probably make a photocopy of your time card, because most places trash them after they are input into the computer.

Before I go.

Last night I went out to close up and there was a little del chick laying there near death. I think the poor thing couldn't make the jump into the coop with the others. I pick it up and warmed it a bit and stuck it in the brooder with the heat light on. This AM I snagged another del chick and put them together. So far ok. I'm really tired of brooding chicks.
