NY chicken lover!!!!

Good Morning!!

Woke up this morning and decided I'm leaving the chickens in the coop all day today. I said I was going to do it the other day, then I heard the chicken song, went up to the coop to check for eggs and one of them flew out on me. So I let them all out after that. Today they're staying in there to see if I get an egg. I have to rule out the possibility that they are laying somewhere else. If I get an egg, I'll start looking around the yard. I just have no idea where else they'd go other than under the porch to lay them. I've looked there already and nothing. (Well, from what I can see with a flash light anyway) I just have to get my butt up to the coop and put food and water in there for them. I've been keeping that stuff out of the coop to help keep it stay cleaner longer.

Stony ~ The Vardo looks great! I agree with Glass with having lots of envious fellow campers. Must be turning heads trailing that thing around! It's beautiful.

Nutty ~ Sounds like you're starting quite the farm over there!

Thats how we do it ! They stay in till noon - 3:00( depends when we will be out ) ...Eggs are laid inside the nesting boxes ...did you put in some fake eggs to give them the idea ?
not sure colored eggs work .. I put masking tape on my pretend eggs ..so they look more realistic ..
One is a covered cats ball the other is a round gourd end ...LOL

They've been in there all day and still no eggs. I really don't think they're laying somewhere else, just weird that if all 3 were laying, even just 2 of them, that they'd start laying in a new spot after a year of laying in the nestbox. There are no eggs under the porch, where they would be laying them if they were, that's their spot to dust bath. They hang out under there all day. No eggs there either. I do have fake eggs in there but I'm going to switch them to real eggs since I still have 2 dozen left but they're probably bad by now-they've been in there for weeks now!

As it is slow I will post somethings
I have plastic bowls for my fermented feed ...One or more hen likes to put her foot on the bowl & tip out the feed ..
continues to eat in the bowl ...not the stuff on the ground ..which gets compacted in & wasted ..Driving me nuts
So I made a frame for the bowls ..they seem to like perching on it to eat ..much less waste ..
Not very pretty but functional

thats goldie looking on

The teens are still looking for their coop in the sky..the 2 of them like to fly ..Heres Roxie looking for it one evening " maybe I can find it up on the Gate "
Ghost Chicken

Heres my front flower garden ..Purple cone flowers

I hope everyone is well

Stony - so inviting ...I am sure all the other campers were impressed ..

I hope is all right & just resting ..it has answered me when I talk to it ..
I have to admit I chuckled when you said it answered you when you spoke to it. But only because I could imagine myself doing the same thing :)

No eggs again today. I even placed two REAL eggs in the nest boxes and nothing. They're staying in again tomorrow, and the day after and the day after that until I get an egg! LOL Now they're strictly on their feed and nothing else. I did some rearranging today, the chicks are back in their brooder box with the baby bunny (they've been living together for weeks now in the run). The run I had on the back of my silkie coop is back at the bigger coop so the bigger girls aren't completely cooped up but aren't being let out to free range either. They will have the same amount of space in their coop, for the run as well and can come in and out as they please from coop to run. So either way if they decide to lay, it has to be done in the nest boxes. This is so frustrating. I really don't know what else it could be to cause them not to lay, not even one of them!
