NY chicken lover!!!!

No eggs again today. I even placed two REAL eggs in the nest boxes and nothing. They're staying in again tomorrow, and the day after and the day after that until I get an egg! LOL Now they're strictly on their feed and nothing else. I did some rearranging today, the chicks are back in their brooder box with the baby bunny (they've been living together for weeks now in the run). The run I had on the back of my silkie coop is back at the bigger coop so the bigger girls aren't completely cooped up but aren't being let out to free range either. They will have the same amount of space in their coop, for the run as well and can come in and out as they please from coop to run. So either way if they decide to lay, it has to be done in the nest boxes. This is so frustrating. I really don't know what else it could be to cause them not to lay, not even one of them!

Not sure what I missed in all this, but some breeds just don't do well in confinement. Plus changes in the coop can put them off for a bit. Some breeds are more hyper than others too. Takes very little to put them off.

This is why I got rid of the Dominiques and didn't get leghorns. Lord have mercy one Dominique hen I had would go to bed early and squawk her fool head off til the others came in.

These are chickens (well the two orps anyway) that I've had for over a year now. They've been laying since August last summer. The buff orp went broody beginning of July, I kept kicking her out of the nest box. Broke her of that and now I believe she is going thru a molt, so that could be why she's not laying. However, my lavender orp went broody, hatched 4 silkie chicks, I took them away around the 6th of July because she wouldn't accept the new blue chick. Haven't gotten an egg since. Nothing has changed, everything's been the same. No eggs.... Edited to add, these are also hens that free range every day for the last year. I'm only keeping them "confined" to their pen right now to rule out the possibility that they are laying out in the yard somewhere like others have mentioned. If I don't get any eggs in the next day or two I'll know that's not the case and they'll be back to the yard to free range during the day.

Guinea hen that had eggs in the ditch hatched out a total of 8 chicks. She has been attacking everything in sight today including a basketball laying in the lawn, the cars, my brother, my sister got attacked by the entire flock of guineas, and my cousin got his face cut to pieces from her toe nails.

Country is your cousin okay? That is one fierce mama. An acquaintance of wanted a specific breed of chickens because they were so aggressive maybe Guineas are 4 him instead.

He is better now but will probly have a lifetime fear of guinea hens and peroxide. I guess there is a new boss around here though. Not sure what to do as I don't feel like taking the keets and setting up heat lamps.

Made an aquarium incubator today pretty much out of boredom. Everything was free for it. My cuz is collecting eggs and nd doing chores while I'm away. He sent me a picture of the egg he found this afternoon. Another double yolker for my copper marans.

Will he coming home with marans eggs and and a few olive eggers. And Carolina ducks.

Can someone please tell me how to use egg cartons for incubation and the process of turning by hand?! I get that u have to turn the an odd number of times but how? All in the same direction? At a 45 degree. Angle overtime? Never. Incubator without an egg turner lol

Luna my broody blue Orp hatched chicks June 21, started laying again Saturday July 27. The chicks still hang with her part of the time, so they aren't completely independent and she hasn't completely abandoned them, but defiantly more time spent apart. And she has laid an egg Sunday and today also.
I'm still waiting for the young girls to get going. Got one maran pullet egg, one double yolker brown odd shaped pullet egg. It was pill-shaped with a dotted line where the two yolks were separated.

DId my work thing today taught some nursey stuff now have to do the paper grading yuck.
Tomorrow going to work some more on pens and roosts and may even take the Corvette out for a spin she definitely hasn't gotten much road time this summer with all the rain. I think both mine and hubby's Vettes have gotten maybe 200 miles combined between the 2 this summer.
Got to stake the Tomato plants tomorrow they are getting pretty tall.
Getting close any day now I should have grandbaby number 3 Daughter is due beginning of August. The other 2 were here and grandson started whining that one of the baby ducks bit him granddaughter says oh your a baby ducks don't hurt they don't have teeth that's why they peck at their food so they can break it up before it goes in their mouth. She had me rolling.
