NY chicken lover!!!!

Of my crew I have brabanter and a possible Welsummer, so we will as they age. I would love to breed our brabanter good nature and well developed Mohawk and puffs. Our Welsummer is just sweet.

Nutty take me with you when you go in the vette! Good luck with grandchild #3

Yeah partly cloudy here the suns breaking through pretty good.

Back to work have a good day

Lynzi glad you got one finally, they're not such slackers after all.

Glass I have a pretty good idea how it's going to be. I guess I owe her since she dealt with me for months after my broken hip and femur. Luckily our daughter is off for the next few days too, that takes some of the heat off me. She actually plans to go back to work in a week, that should be interesting since she's right handed and that's the side they're doing. Fun times ahead :)

Phew! Guess your You can't go out til you do your chores technique worked.

It's too bad I don't know who laid it, I'd let her out to free range with hopes the others catch on and give me eggs too! Lol time to play hardball with these girls.

I have to add, what makes this even funnier is the fact that I had a dream about this last night (You can tell this has really been bothering me that I'm now having dreams about it! LOL). I had a dream that I went out to the nest box the next morning after placing real eggs in the boxes and there were 3 new eggs in there! Well I immediately got upset because now I didn't know which were the old eggs and which were the new eggs. So when I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was go out to the nest box and place an "X" on the old eggs, so if they did in fact lay I would know which ones were new eggs. Who would have thought I would have gone out there to a new egg 2 hours later! :D

Well she just went in. Dr says it should be about 2hrs. I guess I can go find myself some lunch now. I don't plan on venturing far since I hate being in the city, so I suppose I'll just head downstairs to the deli.

Some of my older girls have started molting and some of the hens are on their second broody spell. Hence not as many eggs.

Nutty--Good luck to your daughter. I'm a couple months behind her with my #3. This is it for me.

Yeah, the shoulder will be less inconvenient than your situation. People, particularly healthy people don't understand that there are no awards given for recovering faster than expected. In fact, sometimes the quick return to regular activity negatively impacts speedy full recovery...we have proven that in this house.

:) That's been proven more than once in our house too. She won't let it slow her down much, she should relax but won't.
If she did this snowmobiling like we think she did, it's been bad for about 8 months and finally decided to have it fixed a month ago. She has every intention of going back to work in another week. Only a few hours a day she says but we'll see how that goes. I'll try to keep her from doing too much at home, I'm still semi domesticated :)
The surgeon just came out and said she's done. Just fixed the rotator cuff, her bicep looked good. He wants her to be able to salute him when she comes back next week. Looks like a couple more hours and we can go home.

Well, being broody seems to be making my sex link Lemon a little loopy. She's always been friendly but now that she's broody she's been DEMANDING that I let her sit on my lap each day when she's out for food. I don't mind because it means she'll raise the chicks friendly. Today, though, she was torn between lap sitting and dust bathing and decided to do both and started trying to take a dust bath on my lap. She's been awful about sitting on one nest so I broke down and ordered some chicks for her, mostly because I wanted some naked necks. They'll be here at the end of the week. Can't wait!

I also have two duck eggs in lockdown, and as of this morning one was internally pipped. So I'll give those to my broody duck when they hatch, because she's been a little unreliable on the nest too, so I took them from her about two weeks ago. Now she gets them back. Babies everywhere!

Yes but the problem is catching them. Tried yesterday but ended up getting 6 adult guineas chasing us around the yard every time we get within 20 ft.

If you must collect them I'd try it at night and with a headlamp set for dim. That way you'd have both hands free, one to pick up chicks and one to hold your shield.

I have a fishing net screwed to a long stick for bigger chickens.
