NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks Metella , but I'm hoping of a pure Ameraucana roo. I just want to add some new blood into my EE's. But if you're interested in a marans roo you're welcome to one or two or three. You can always take the ones you don't want to the auction. I just don't care to drive so far.

Big score today. 14 sheets of corrugated metal from a friend of my SILs. Used and with the nail holes but good for the roof of my run. That will mean no more tarps or plastic to deal with.

New they would have cost, $224 plus dollars. And these are heavier than you can get today at HD. I do intend to use some clear plastic panels too since that will let some light into the run.
I'll have enough to do the run and part of a hoop coop.

One new thing I do when screwing in the panels to to take an old garden hose and cut square washers. I just screw right through the squares and they seal the hole. For the plastic panels they keep it from breaking.

Coincidence or bonding? I thought that hen laid eggs roughly every 26 hours? For the last three days Frenhie has laid her egg right in front of me, allowing me to pet her before, during and after she has completed the task. It has also been around 10 am each day. That is when I check I them before going to work.

Also, Pearl laid another soft egg last night while roosting. I have seen her eat, I have seen her eat calcium too. Any suggestions? I was thinking of letting her hatch out some chicks since every one of the other laying girls are laying fertile eggs. Kind of hoping that it might break her broodyish funk.

Is Frenchie very tame or your favorite ?
I have heard of hens doing this ..Friends had a hen that would do that ..She would come in the house & lay one on the counter every day .
Is Pearl a newbie ?
As occasionally they do this when their system starts up ...Lets just say it missed the shell part of the operation ...
We had one pullet lay one ...Dont know which one .
It was sure weird ...like a silicone egg

Rancher that was a good score

I have a neighbor down the road whose daughter brought me some chickens because her father couldn't take care of them got to get some saddles and blukote on them some are pretty beat up. The odd thing is they are all unusual breeds like Phoenix, Partridge Penedesenca, and golden barnvelders not sure where he got them from but they seem like they will make some chickens.
I think I am going to try a little project and make an incubator with the boys anyone here ever made an incubator if so any tips?

Lots of folks have made them but to me they just seemed like more work than I wanted to put into it. Sides, many make them to hold a lot more eggs than I should hatch at one time.

The temptation is just to great.

Some of those are nice breeds. the Barnies especially. Hope things work out and perhaps yo can give her dad some eggs.

Good find Rancher.
Nutty, what is a golden Barnevelder? We have standard double laced here and next year I would like to add some blue laced.

Quote: If you have any Birchen Marans roos that don't have any red on them, or are not "cream" either, I'd be interested. I've lost all my BMs except one cockerel & one pullet. I have a year old roo but he has too much yellow and I need a back up in case the cockerel ends up with cream or red feathers...this is a hard variety to work with...
