NY chicken lover!!!!

Is anyone else having problems with byc notifications? It says I'm subscribed t this thread, but I'm not getting notices anymore...I've been so busy lately, that I forget to check in unless I get a reminder...

Also, I am going to put an ad up for Lavendar Orpinngton eggs for Monday, in case anyone is interested. Hens have started laying again.

Mine occasionally don't come through or I'll get a few all at once. I chalked it up to the new version of Gmail filtering stuff out. I don't like the new version and hope they get it fixed. Chris

Rancher - understood ! Mahogany is a mixed EE so not what you need. One of my two maran chicks is almost for sure a roo, so I'm covered for that breeding.

All - I think it must be gmail, my notices are coming in like normal. Got a hen w/3 chicks, because I am an addict like most of you. I had her in a quarantine run for a day ... then her peeps were getting bolder and squeezed out ... to join the flock. So I had to let momma in .... she had a tussle with a few and in just 30 seconds is queen of the flock ... just giving an evil eye to get the others to back off. Her peeps are marching around like privledged rich kids. ha ha ha ha ha Fortunately, momma was handled a lot and is not aggressive with me.

If you have any Birchen Marans roos that don't have any red on them, or are not "cream" either, I'd be interested. I've lost all my BMs except one cockerel & one pullet. I have a year old roo but he has too much yellow and I need a back up in case the cockerel ends up with cream or red feathers...this is a hard variety to work with...

I saw a roo on CL that I think may have been one of my originals for $15. They also have been crossing to a copper. I don't know why, but the original might be okay. The pic is not real good. I don't see the white tail feather that mine has.

I'll post pics when I can. Some of the younger ones that should have markings have none at all. I don't know what is up with that. I don't know why I always take a fancy to birds with hard to develop patterns. Though I have read that too many are going for that rather than type.

Metella, congrats on the hen! What breed is she?

I've made my red sex link Lemon's day. She's been broody, and being broody has made her dopey. She tried to take a dust bath on my lap and couldn't remember what nest she was supposed to be on, so, since she's so friendly and is a favorite, I ordered her some chicks. They arrived today, all alive! 3 naked necks, 2 dark brahmas, one california white, 3 mottled houdans, one barred rock, one golden sex link, and two mysteries, which appear to be a sex link and a barred rock. All girls except the houdans, which are straight run. I decided to give her five and see how she does for a few hours, and if all's well, she'll get the rest before I leave for work. She was so happy when she heard the peeping. I took her eggs, put a chick in front of her, and she got all excited, like "Is that for me?" She raised up, encouraged it under her, and sat back down. I tucked the other four under and so far so good. She's happy as, well, as a broody with chicks.

Rancher that was a good score

I have a neighbor down the road whose daughter brought me some chickens because her father couldn't take care of them got to get some saddles and blukote on them some are pretty beat up. The odd thing is they are all unusual breeds like Phoenix, Partridge Penedesenca, and golden barnvelders not sure where he got them from but they seem like they will make some chickens.
I think I am going to try a little project and make an incubator with the boys anyone here ever made an incubator if so any tips?
People make them all the time. I'd experiment for quite a time so as not to be disappointed. Just google it and loads of info will pop up. Good luck.

Morning Everyone!
Well I went out to the nest box today to check for another egg. My son's Buff Orp (the one who isngoing thru a molt) was sitting in the nestbox on 3 eggs (2 are still the old ones that I've been meaning to remove). So I don't know if she's the one laying??? I thought hens don't usually lay when they're going thru a molt....

email I check all the time.

The brown egg is our first from 1 of 6 amber sex links. I was comparing it to our silkie eggs since they are laying well and not my barred rock ugh.

We think the egg is from her since her comb and wattles are ridiculous compared to the other five.
