NY chicken lover!!!!

I have four roos that were born at the end of november, I think or was it December? These aren't ready and I just can't see giving the other ones away. I never thought of those orange cones. They sell them in the home cetnter stores don't they?

Trish - don't you even think of buying eggs, we got some BR's to do. Unless you got room. I figure 24 in mine, but I don't know how many CR's Scott will send. I figure at least a doz. or more.

Ren - have you posted pics of your orpingtons?

I keep checking in to see if patty has tried to contact me. I have her chicks and she's not home yet I guess. Can't get her by phone either or leave a message cuz her box is full.

Glad to hear there is another person around here on this site. Don't see to many most I see from new york are from central or eastern ny. I live in wilson myself, if you know where that is. About 1/2 hr west of you.

I'm alright with growing out the young roos. Think they'll be big enough to dispatch in 6 weeks? The cones? Maybe they have them at lowes.... this one came to my house one Halloween with some teenagers!

I just put my little splash blrw up on CL since he was dubbed 'roo' by the byc crowd, so if anyone sees that ad, it's mine..

I have enough problems with my current roo, who is huge and gorgeous and reasonably well behaved but starts crowing at 4AM. Doesn't bother me, but we'll see what the neighbors think.

Supposed to get more snow today - just started with a mix here in albany, but 2-4 inches predicted for my house. Ah well, it will cover up the coop cleaning mess I made (pine shavings everywhere)..

Read on another thread that you can make a cone for butchering out of a gallon milk jug...even has a handle to hold on to.
Have you searched BYC for butchering? There was a wonderful thread that had pictures of every step....one of the first pictures had the chicken in a cone. That would give you and idea of what works. (Kinda looks like the cone they put around dogs necks to keep them from licking after surgury)

Snow stinks!
We moved our older babies out to the barn this week and my sister asked me where they went because she liked to go by the brooder to look at the 2 silkies we got from Muggs. She said "where'd the poofy ones go I really liked them"

silkies can grow on anyone!
