NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm trying very hard to avoid that but it looks like we're heading that way. If I catch the dog on my property again I'll take care of it myself. I TOLD him to keep the dog away from my birds and my goose in particular or we'd have problems, and when I went up there to speak with him again, he hadn't so much as bought a tie out to keep the dog on his property. The dog itself is very sweet to people, so I'd like to not have to take care of him, but if it happens again I'm going to. Two times is two times too many.

This happened again? I'm so sorry but stony is right it's gotta end now.

This is good parenting right? LOL
Until I fix this make shift coop this is how we get the younger ones in lol

Luna is going broody again! She hatched her first batch in June, brooded them for about 6 weeks, laid an egg every day since until a couple days ago. She has been spending lots of time in the nest box. At least she prefers the less popular top box, which of course not preferable for chicks. Coop is at max capacity. So the plan is to breed the EE and Ancona hens with Harry the EE roo this week. If i can catch them, the other 2 anconas are going in too. He has been in the Eglu for a couple months now, so is overjoyed with female companions. Better than the rock and stick replacements he used. Maybe I can get some of his offspring before he goes to dinner.
This spring's Roos are up for grabs. Golden blue Maran, 2 olive Egger-blue and barred, 1 Del, all from Tab. Also have 1 welsummer and 1 partridge rock roo from the June hatch, from Deb in Tully.
Already trying to think of how I can get more roost space in the coop. Double decker?

On a less macabre note, I have a jersey giant cockerel I need to rehome if anybody wants him - for the flock or for eating. So far he's good with people and good with hens - he has been actively protecting the batch of pullets he's in with from the older hens. He kept all the pullets safe from the attacking dog this weekend by leading them away and hiding them.

I've been put on strict bed rest and taken out of work. I went into preterm labor thursday and was admitted to the hospital. They put me on a magnesium iv to stop labor and i was released yesterday. DH is taken on the extra work around the house. He even put ointment on my toes where i had a cut.

Yes Tab Please stay in bed ...take care of yourself & that little baby

Well I thought I had a new egg layer till I was about to ask which chick ya'll think it could have come from and got thinking. I have 9 egg layers but today is the first day we have gotten 9. I was thinking we only had 8 so thought I had a new layer. We average 7-8 normaly 8 sometimes 6 eggs a day with the 9 layers we have. So we wasn't thinking we had 9 layers till now lol.

I cant wait for my other 5 ladies to start laying and stop just eating my dang food. On plus side we had our first selling of eggs the other day. We sold our old lawnmower and I sold 1 dozen eggs to him also. He said we was cheaper than anywhere else so I may have to raise the price. I was going to sell for $2.00 a dozen cause atm we go through that much feed per day. He said others are charging $3+ per dozen. I may move to $2.50 a dozen and try to make up for the winter feed cost that I know will rise but egg production drop.

Went into lockdown on Friday day 21 is Monday I hope some hatch tomorrow I've been watching them all day today.

Ginny my due date is october 1st.
Pyxis sorry about your birds

My youngest got into the am pre k. I'm so happy about it. It is going to save us in daycare costs. Now to find daycare for the new baby when she comes.

Big excitement this morning. We are watching my older son's dog, and he wakes up early. He seems to think when Earl crows its time to be up. Dh got up with him, they went downstairs and Coda went outside immediately. Bella and I stayed upstairs to wake up slowly. Then DH is urgently calling Coda back. There was a coyote close to the house somewhere, and he and Coda were sort of chasing each other in short bursts, they ran from the front yard to the back yard together. Then they were in the back, beside the pen and behind it, running and chasing. Coda is way faster than the coyote, but it didn't look like he was being regarded as dinner. Still, I didn't like them being so close. Bella and I were watching from the bedroom window, and Bella was barking...finally I called and heard Coda on the back deck. DH appeared with the bb gun. So that toy is ready. Around the time Coda was on the deck, another lighter colored coyote came out of the woods.

Plan for today: keep the dogs close, brushog more, make a lot of noise and dream of guns and more hot poultry net.

It did not look like Coda chased them away. It looked like they were claiming this as their territory. That needs to change.

I sell from my home $3 a dz for large foul chicken eggs, $4 a dz for duck eggs. But I have a local farm store who pays me $2.50 a dozen for the small almost bantam Sumatra eggs, $3 a dz for large foul chicken eggs and $4.50 a dz for duck eggs.

At $2 or even $2.50 I don't see how you even can break even especially in the winter.
