NY chicken lover!!!!

I've been put on strict bed rest and taken out of work. I went into preterm labor thursday and was admitted to the hospital. They put me on a magnesium iv to stop labor and i was released yesterday. DH is taken on the extra work around the house. He even put ointment on my toes where i had a cut.

Wish I lived closer. I loved your set up and would have had no problem stopping in daily to feed your birds. But please call those who ARE close to you to help....it does the helping person's heart good to be called upon.

Jay, garlic is pretty good to grow. For one thing you can plant it this year and it's ready in mid summer, then you can use that spot for something else. I planted 50 cloves last year, they all did great. I had a hard neck variety, they make the cool curly scrapes, and we ate some of them and let others mature, and those are like tiny bulblets that take about 2 years to get to decent size. Plant your largest cloves to get the biggest heads. The soft neck variety you can braid...

Cass, don't use the supermarket kind, they have all those weird little cloves, and there is some reason that I read they don't grow well...go to a garlic festival and get a couple of variety and see what works.

Garlic doesn't like too much wetness, especially right before harvest, they can rot. Mine by chance were in my raised bed and loved it there even with the unusual weather we had. It is very good to see the little garlic tops all evenly spaced early in the spring. Makes you want to plant more stuff since it is so cheery.

I made hot pepper jam today, and I think it will be a keeper.

Tab, do try to relax, enjoy this down time, cause once the baby is born you'll be running. Do you like to read? Or knit? Do anything quiet? It really will be good for you to relax and learn how to let others do for you, just for a few weeks. It will be good for the girls, and you can cuddle them if they are gentle, and read them stories...they will love to do things for Mommy for a change. I know it's hard for you to not do stuff, but important.

Tab, When is the baby due? Can you stay still that long? Hoping for the best, Ginny

The neighbor's @#$% dog came back after I already talked to him once. Killed three birds and injured my goose. I warned him last time if that dog came back and hurt the goose the gloves were off. That goose is my baby. Her wing is hurt, so she's going to the vet and he's paying for it. This time I'm also making him pay for the birds the dog killed too. I was very nice the first time. This time not so much. I even made sure to get pictures of his dog with the dead birds so if I have to take this further, I can. I've been nice enough and this is ridiculous. Metella, if you're reading this, one of the birds killed was the blue marans I had for you.

like I said last time call the police, call the dog warden and have that predator put down

sorry you had this trouble but the time to end it for good is now. Otherwise the dog WILL be back and it WILL kill again

Garlic I did hear it's a natural de-wiener along with pumpkin seeds.

I will take everyone's advice and try planting some.

TAB I wish you all the best. Take it easy and watch all those movies you haven't been able to watch.

Went to the state fair and met Gramma chick and had a lot of fun. Missed rancher but we thought of you!

Hang onto that little one a bit longer! Make dh give you a bell. Wishing you the best!

I'm trying very hard to avoid that but it looks like we're heading that way. If I catch the dog on my property again I'll take care of it myself. I TOLD him to keep the dog away from my birds and my goose in particular or we'd have problems, and when I went up there to speak with him again, he hadn't so much as bought a tie out to keep the dog on his property. The dog itself is very sweet to people, so I'd like to not have to take care of him, but if it happens again I'm going to. Two times is two times too many.

Ok the one in the middle is a not so pretty Faverolle she's 5 months squatting but not laying. The on the left is a 3 month old Jersey giant, and the other one is 4month old Welsummer. We'll when finally got home from the fair everyone was perches and we startled the Jersey so she squeezed under our Faverolle and the Welsummer followed suit. We were joking that they were teaching her to broody lol.

My make shift coop is a hot mess but works lol I will get fixed up and reinforced 2moro.

Hope everyone has a good night!

you are far more patient than I am. If that had happened to me the very 1st time the dog would have died of lead poisoning. That IS a predator with the taste for blood. It WILL attack again. It WILL kill more of YOUR birds. The only thing that stops a predator from killing your birds:
1) you run out of birds
2) the predator is dead.
