NY chicken lover!!!!

I love my electric netting too. Always buy the 4 foot netting tho - I bought some 3 foot netting for one coop and they just got the hang of flying over so it's useless for that little coop. I need to learn how to clip wings. :)

Bella omg I've never seen that much blood before, my girl is laying 3 oz once a week, I'm glad she's ok. Can't fit those big ones in the carton lol.

I've been getting some large eggs lately too. 3.1 oz and even a 3.2 oz. 3.7 is their record last year. Some are so large that I have to rubberband the egg carton in order to put it out for sale. Egg customer love those eggs! Once in awhile some blood like that is normal.
I was letting out chickens out to free range yesterday when one of our egg customers (a little old lady) pulls off the side of the road. As she was looking in her wallet for money, a hen comes running over and looked at her kind of sideways like, "Ya got scratch? What do you have?". We were in the house laughing. Poor lady was trying to shoo her away so she didn't go in the road. It was comical.

2541 mark.

Fair two days , stop. Tired , stop. Saw chickens, stop. Very bad examples some, stop. Report of one being in cage dead, stop. One with bare butt for sale by someone named Jeff, stop. IMO don't buy chickens at fair, stop.

Off to take nap,

Rancher

We (okay, I) am sucking it up, and today is Oscar's last day on earth. I've been putting it off and putting it off, but my poor hens. I just want them to have some feathers before winter.
Dh is doing the deed tomorrow. I told him I don't want to be home, I don't want to see blood or feathers. I just want the skinless breasts in the fridge. I know, I'm a baby.
I will be left with 1 rooster for 51 hens. Lucky boy. So far, Gonzo seems to be good. He is deathly afraid of people but he's a good alarm and seems to do a good job keeping the girls in line. He's extremely fast. I've never seen a chicken run as fast as he does and he comes running if there's trouble. He's a tetra tint and is pure white with this huge tall comb. His saddle feathers hang long and remind me of fringe on a biker's leather jacket. He's on the small side, though. He doesn't mate 25% the amount Oscar does.
My hens should start to relax a little more after tomorrow morning.

I can try 10:30 ...real early for me... at the grange ox roast building.
I will be wearing my I love birds shirt ..with a couple of black feathers in my blond hair

Chevy Court noon is fine

Gramma Chick - It was so nice meeting you. The ladies up front are still laughing at me. I came in this morning to them yelling "Good Morning Chicken Lady". They thought that it was cool that you made it when I explained what was happening. Our family has an long time running bet that it doesn't matter where my grandfather goes, even out of state, that he can find someone that knows him. When I told my uncle and mom that you knew him they laughed for at least 5 minutes. I wish that I could have met the rest of you that made it out, I just had to get home for my little boys birthday party!

Today is his actual birthday, 3 years old.

Pxysis - busy weekend and I just got to the computer now - got clients getting nasty with me about deadlines, so I am hunkered over the keyboard all weekend. That is very sad - but as the others here say, you already gave the chance ... once they pay for Lacy's vet bill, then animal control should be there and take the dogs away. The second you see that dog in your yard, you should shoot it.

I know this is hard for you - as you LOVE animals, but we know the fault lies with the owners, however the law is weak in responding to things like this - and so the dog must pay. You can't keep losing show quality chickens and beloved pets like that!!! You adore Lacy - and the next time it could be her last day. If you need help being mean .... I'm your girl. :) wink. You have my sympathies ! :( this is not a fun situation, and I know you don't want to be in it.

If my two Marans are hens, then I'm going to need a Maran roo by spring.

Next time is the last time it'll ever step foot in my yard or anyone else's. My father was livid - Lacie is his favorite too. The dog is at two strikes - one more strike and he's out. Heck, the vet might even report the guy when I bring Lacie in. When I brought the silkie in he was mad. This time he might do the reporting and then it's out of my hands.

Also, I'm sorry about the marans :( It was the only young one that was killed. It may be that he stayed back to try to fight the dog while the others ran. He would have been a good roo. Luckily Romeo the OEGB got away. Had he or Lacie been killed, I would have called the police already.
